Default Intake Air Filter System

I'm thinking of getting one of those Intake Air filter system for my 2000 Ram 5.9.

What do you guys think of these things (those who have used them) compared to the stock box and filter?

I'm not really into how it looks, so just want to know if it helps at all? (horsepower? Gas mileage? proformance? etc)

thanks for any input-

The performance upgrade you'll get from a CIA, ( cold air intake ) isnt worth the money in my opinion..( some can be 300+ )for what I paid for my K&N set up... its the cost of a Fastman TB... the round air breather is just as good performance wise and cheaper.. look at the stats too.. you have to remember.. the set ups like a k&n..usually show the biggest gains..( 11-17HP???) at like 4000+ RPM's... my truck has never seen 4000+ I dont think...LOL...I currently have a K&N set up... the only noticable difference was a touch more throttle response... and alittle louder intake sound...I'm going to a good quality round breather...just my opinion....

That was one of the ones I was thinking of getting, but if it really doesn't do anything than it still isn't worth it.

I cant say it doesnt do ANYTHING... but in my opinion... if you were ready to get a new set up like a K&N, Airaid, something like that...and was almost willing to spend 250-350...take that money and upgrade your TB and get a round breather, or a fastman TB and a CHEAPLY priced used CIA.

I have the mopar proformance 13" round air cleaner. It was 70 bucks on summitracing. Silver_Dodge has a thread called FIPK no more if your want more info. I felt a noticeable increase in proformance mostly in throttle responce.

ive got the spectre 14" round air cleaner w/ K&N filter. and i feel that it works just as good if not better than the CAI. im just like u Eric334 i could care less what it looks like just as long as it works! i can feel the throttle response/ performance difference(its not much but i can tell) and noticed slight mpg ain. i would get the air cleaner and save the rest of the $$ for something else.

This has already been discussed many times, but here goes again...

Unless you have a CAI like my Volant, which pulls air from outside the engine bay (not one that simple gathers air as it enters the hot engine bay, like the K&N and other similar intake brands), you might as well go with the 14x3 round setup, because all you're doing is getting the benefits of a bigger filter, which the 14x3 will do for a LOT cheaper than any CAI. And the benefits of a CAI like the Volant vs. the 14x3 are still debatable.

And even if you elect to go with a CAI, I would never pay above $250 for one, EVER. Thats just highway robbery.

I believe it was IndyRamMan that explained it in great detail in one of the last threads that discussed this, and did a very good job of it.
