Default cruise control

I just found a small quirk with my cruise control. It had been that when activated and engaged the cruise would start out working fine, then after 5-10 seconds you could see that the speed was not staying even, it would drop off. Accidently I hit the accell button on the other side of the steering wheel and by golly the speed stayed consistent. I tried the cruise several times, I was on the freeway at the time, always starting by turning it on then pushing the "set" button and then kinda of pusing the "accell" button. Seems to work fine.

You could have a bad set button switch or the brake lite switch is causing the cruise control not to set.

BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH!!!

I was just about to post about how you fixed the problem of the switch staying on. I have to use my foot to pull the brake pedal back and engage the switch. A guy towed my truck and then fastened a ratchet strap from the brake to the steering wheel. i think it bent the switch backwards. Should i just try to bend it back?

Can i get some guidance?

Don't know why at all. Maybe because i was not there when he towed it and needed to keep the steering wheel straight when loading it. Thats all i can think of. I was at work when it was towed.

Yeah, i probably just answered my own question. Just wanted a second opinion.

You sure you don't have a vacuum leak?

Yea I'm pretty sure there isn't a vacuum leak, I took out the battery and checked the vac lines, no leaks. It just struck me as odd that when I pushed the accell button the cruise stayed constant.
Thanks for the replies
