Default HD transmission?

I just had a random idea, after reading a little through 01Dodgeram360's thread about his transmission, what if I was to get myself a 100 dollar junkyard tranny, 46re, 47re whatever, and rebuild it using HD parts? Something I've never done, but is that worth it?

Sure if you dont want any down time.. trans you want is an RH not an RE , RE is in the newer trucks..

ok, didn't know about the RH. I got so into my Nova that the only trans I ever researched were the 200r4 and 700r4. Tryin to get into the Dodge Tranny's but there are so many troublesome the only one's I know are good ar Dr Evil and Fastman, and that's not any particular product, just a general brand.

Would one of the HD 2500 transmissions work stock, or would I have to go into swapping axles and what not? That, and considering if there were any 2wd 2500's.

Ya you can build up your own junkyard tranny if you got skills.
Your truck should have a 46RE trans. RE is 96+ the RH is the same basic trans but has a Hydraulic governor VS a electronic one in the RE.
The 2500 uses the same trans as a 1500.
Adding a better torque converter, shift kit and bigger trans cooler should be enough for all but the hard core off roaders and towers.

Are you absolutely sure?
I don't think I have ever seen a 96 and newer that had the old style trans?
Does your truck have an EGR?
I know the RH overdrive is longer but I don't think there is an easy way to tell just by looking at it.

DGTS 4-Spd. Automatic 46RE Transmission

Straight off my build sheet.

So am I to understand the 5.9 2500s have the 5.9 1500s have the same transmission?
I know the V-10s and the CTD 2500s have the 47RE
