The flowmaster 40 is louder than the 44. All the flowmasters have a pretty similar tone. I have the 40 I like mine. Not sure about Ravin. Never had one.

I put headers on and had mine true dual dump behind the cab. Love it I personally don't like exhaust pipes on any truck(except lowered street trucks but diff. ball park)
mine cost 350(pipes muffs etc.)....but I can't weld so I bit the bullet.
+1 to indy screw fake anything.

So me not the most mechanically inclined...but wanting to learn...how much work or level of knowledge does someone need to have to install new headers?

The welding part I just let the guy I know to do.

Its not bad depending on the type you buy....shorties are supposed to be direct replacements.. mine went on without a hitch... its getting the old manifolds off that are the real test. The worst part... there are two studs instead of bolts on the center ports of the old manifolds....they have a nut on them...after you get the nuts off.. IF you get the nuts off.. you have to get the studs out for most headers....mine were a total PITA. Once I got the manifolds off.. putting the headers on my truck went smooth...had to wrestle just a bit with the Y pipe but the it wasnt much. I saturated the studs with a good rust buster... and took my time...oh.. mine were the Gibson shorties. If you go with long tubes... you'll have to rework the exhaust behind them.. ( the Y pipe and back to accomodate the long tube collectors I think..) Oh.. and this isnt mentioned much.. guess its just assumed.. but when dealing with rusted parts... good quality tools always work better..sockets in good shape and good ratchets.

I heard someone say that you lose like 10% hp when you make the bend for the exhaust pipe over the rear axle. I don't know if it is truth or myth, so I'm plainly saying that I've heard that before. I like the dual out look and it really shouldn't be that expensive to do a true dual setup. It's not really any harder to do than a si/do cat back. Just a little more piping to be added. I'll agree with Cereal, all Flowmasters have a distinct tone, so you'd be happy with any of them.

I personally like si/so but if your just going for sound and a little more free flowing exhaust than I don't think you could go wrong with either. I would stay away from midas, I don't like any of those chain shops.

CEREAL! Aww cmon you mean to tell me the 40's are louder?! Well the 44's still have the performance edge i would hope.. why else would they bring out a new muffler?! From what I understand. the 40's are loud, super 40's are performance. and the 44's were loud and performence?! Hell, i might just go with the 30's! OFF ROAD! [sm=crossbonesgif.gif]
