my personal feelings...
suspension is the way to go. I wouldn't lift my truck since i never take it off road and its just my daily commuter.
but body lifts look cheap (no offense to those who have it), it just looks like a budget job.
A suspension lift looks like someone is serious and dedicated to the cause.

Body lifts don't look that bad on these trucks like they do on some. It doesn't leave a ton of gap everywhere for you to see. If you lift the body and use the brackets to lift the bumper you will need to have your exhaust raised along with your trailer hitch to make it look right. In the front with a body lift you will probably have to do a little custom work if you want a grill guard. A buddy has a Ranger with one where they cut the bumper up a little.

That being said I'd go with suspension if money is no object. The only time I'd use a body lift was say I had a 3" suspension lift and wanted 6" but didn't have $1500 to put into a new suspension lift so I might would add a 3" body on top of my suspension. I don't think they are as bad as a lot of people make them sound but I still don't like them a whole lot.

Why would you need a lift for a grill guard???
I've never heard of needing a lift kit for installing a guard before.

As for the lifts...I prefer the suspension lifts. My last lifted vehicle was a Ramcharger.
5 inch suspension lift with 35 inch BFGs. Fun rig but hard on the U joints.

I prefer suspension lift too, but i'm currently running a 3" suspension and a 3" body. It's ok, no major complaints yet. Would have rather just had a 5"-6" suspension lift instead, but I got what I could afford at the time.

As long as a body lift is done right it isn't bad.

Some people go for the height and don't modify anything else to match.

I have seen a 90s chevy running around my area with a huge done in the driveway body lift. His bumpers must be 6 below the body...I guess the owner likes it.

Body lifts are a good way to clear tires, but remember that it doesn't lift your frame any higher, and it doesn't allow for any extra articulation of those big tires. The other perk of body lifts is the extra room in your engine bay.

When getting a suspension lift make sure you find a lift that uses add-a-leafs in the rear not blocks, and coil springs up front, not spacers. Also do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on the drop pitman arm.

just curious but why not use blocks. I finally found a lift kit for my truck from www.topguncustomz.com and its a 3inch lift w/ coils in the front and blocks in the back. and neither kit comes w/ add-a-leaf, just blocks. are blocks a harsher ride? or is it hard on the exsisting leafs? im just askin cuz i dont know.

This is a good kit. It comes with a stiff add-a-leaf. Do not get their RS5000 shocks though. With the kit and stiff shocks it will be tough for normal driving.I didit.

If you call topguncustomz, they will probably let you get the leaf in place of the block and add it in to the price.

Me I am now adding a 3" block to a 3" Add-a-leaf . Haven't had it on the road yet but we'll see how it works out. The rear is easy to swap out. Springs are better. There is already a 3" factory block in there from the factory so by adding one they are stacked. If you are just BSing around with occasional off roading blocks would be OK. If your going to get hard on it springs will hold up better.
After first having the 3" lift kit and then adding the 3" body lift, I am now pulling the suspension kit and putting on a 6" lift kit. If I'd have known I was going to do this every time I wore out a set of tires I would have got the 6" to start with. Here is the kit. A lot of work..... http://www.extremesuspensions.com/st...p&cPath=22

Remember these are only opinions on how to help you spend your money......If I was to do one it would be the suspension.
