I understand the "tight funds" thing. As long as you've good oil pressure now, you'll be ok with leaving the pump alone. Just take a good look at it so if/when you decide you'd like to replace it you'll have a good idea.

The oil pan gasket for our Magnum engines is a re-usable rubber gasket so you should not need any gasket cement for it.

You might want to use a little in the corners by the rear main bearing and up front by the timing chain cover. That's where the oil pan gasket makes the 90* bends and can leak easier than anywhere else.
Oil pumps are very cheap ~$25 I just installed a Melling High volume pump. Tomorrow I'm modding the Kegger and slapping the whole thing back together.
Rear main and timing chain were both shot. My truck's right at 78,500 miles and mine was as loose as dhvaughan's in his photos from a year ago. Still not 100% sure where the coolant is or was coming from, but the oil was black, not milky or brown so I don't think I've cracked a head or anything.

aim- i had the same coolant scare. when i pulled the pan i had coolant around the edges, but oil is not milky, and couldnt see cracks or anything in the head. I just figured it was from my coolant hose not being on tight enough a couple months ago.

reinstalling the pan was not as bad as pulling it off. just used a little cement on the corners of the gasket to keep it in place while i reinstalled the pan. once the truck burnt off the tranny fluid that was spilled on it (i did a fluid/filter change as well) it has no smoke, and no leaks. almost brings a tear to my eye.

fresh oil change with some Q horsepower 10w-30 synthetic and some restore engine additive, shes purrin like a kitten.

thanks for all yalls help.

Any idea yet as to what cause the hole?
I crossed the center line on the interstate years ago while changing lanes and hit a pair of pliers laying on the road. Kicked them up with the front tire right into the oil pan. Couldn't fukin believe it. Pulled over to see them sticking out the bottom of the oil pan and oil pouring out like a bastard. Wonder of maybe you did something similiar with a rock or something...
Still got them damn pliers to this day!! I was gonna tell Neon that's one way to get new tools but didn't figure he was much in the mood after the crap tranny troubles!!
