Default AMS Oil?

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 Sport 5.2L and I am trying to get some opinions on switching over to AMS Oil. The truck has 90K on it... what do you think on this one?

Thanks Guys
Derek

I run amsoil in my truck. Change the oil and filter every 10,000 miles and I got no complaints. You can let it go alot longer than that I just don't.

I never ran it in my truck but did in my wifes car. I noticed it made hers actually run cooler. Absolutely no complaints about it at all.
I haven't run it in my truck because it had 107,000 on it when I bought it and didn't want to go thru the leaking gasket crap other wise I would have.

The leaking is what I am worried about. With the truck having 90k on it, Is it a good idea?

I didn't start putting it in my truck till it had like 100,000 miles on it. So far hasn't leaked a drop.

That is good to hear! My Pickup is very well maintained and hope that it can handle the change. I want it around for a while and that is the reason for changing over to AMS. I did find the thread for the AMS oil discussion. Sorry for starting up this one. Other Forums can't stand when newbies do that.... I haven't been a Newbie for a long time and here I am doing it!!!

Question, What kind of milage am I supposed to be getting on a 5.2? I am only getting 11mpg... Not good... And there isn't any mods done yet!

Do a tune up, and check to see if your plenum gasket is fubared. You should be able to get around 14-16

I've got pretty much the same truck as you. I just switched to synthetic, and there has been no leaking. Truck runs cooler, starts easier, and gets a little bit better MPG. I highly recommend any synthetic (Amsoil, Royal Purple, or even any other good synthetic brand.)

Might have to. I get maybe 12 HWY... I do have some taller tires on it but shouldn't make that much difference... I don't think?
