Could a leaking power steering cause bad mpg?
Im asking becuase im about to make a 1400 mile trip to florida and was wondering if it would. Right now im getting 13mpg highway. I figure thats norm for my truck. Also should i do anything to my truck before the trip? Thanks
I dont know if a power steering pump would cause bad mileage i have never heard of it,but it could be possible,13mpg is about the norm, it's actually pretty good because i have a regular cab and i get about that mileage sometimes. As for your pre trip just do the basics, checkfluids, tire pressures, make suretruck is in good working condition, and probably grease everything on it(there probably a few i missed) thats all i can think of right now. good luck with your trip though.
doubtful that a simple leak in the power steering would cause lower MPG,
but:
low tire air pressure, deep tire tread depth, cold air temperatures, winter blend gasoline, wet road surfaces....all of them lower MPG

jstnumber73: 13 is not bad for a 4x4, I only get 16.4 and I drive 55 97-98% highway (2wd).
BTW Killing for peace is what has to be done when other people are willing to kill. Especially if they start it. Your analogy would be better if you said 'eating to get thin is like screwing for virginity'. Killing is allowed in the bible, adultry and fornication are not. Murder is not allowed. When you MURDER the innocent, you need to be prepared for the consequences.
Peace has a price, something you must not understand yet. This is evident in your false analogy.

ill try going 60 on the highway and see what i get. I usaully set cruise on 80; With my dirtbike in the back i got 13. Whats the proper air pressure for our trucks? I have 35psi in mine right now, there BFG All Terrains.
Big Ram: I do agree with you. But there are some instances where killing for peace is not acceptable.
