Observations:

My wife took my truck and she was late, I could here her for quite a distance. Not that it was loud, just that it was low.

I drove about 30 miles into work today, interstate all the way. I did have to turn my radio up louder because there is naturally, as HankL would say, a low drone. Good thing I listen to talk radio.

The power is way up, the RPM's are down slightly. It may be in my head, but it seems the truck actually shifts better when getting on the highway.

Conclusion: I can't tell you how much I love the sound of that Super 44, andmag cat!

Good to hear. I like my regular 40 series a lot too but it sometimes does get loud on the highway. Would it be a worthwhile upgrade to upgrade from the 40 to the super 44? The super 44's were just coming out when I got my 40 so I didn't want to be the one to try it.

Hometheater, I don't think it'd be a good guarantee that the 44 would be quiter than the 40 on the highway. I think it depends how your system is set-up. I run the 44 and it's very loud, all the time, and it drones, drones, and drones. Personally, I love the drone, but for some, it's a nightmare. On the highway, it pretty much never stops, but it's because my truck is constantly working to move the 35" tires at a consisent speed. The 44 is not supposed to be any quiter though, just deeper. I'm not saying you shouldn't swap, but if anybody has the notion the 44 will be quiter or drone less, I'd have to disagree with that, it would all depend on what kind of piping size, and cats, and exit style your using ya know??

Basically the same exit style as you haha only with my tips a little different. Then I have a cat. Anyway my 40 is pretty loud. Sometimes a little too loud inside. The Flowmaster I had before was about as loud outside the truck but you could barely hear it inside. This thing you can hear over the radio and just sometimes is annoying other times it's perfect. I think I might keep mine.

LOL yeah I agree. I think the 44 will be just as loud as what you have now. Just wouldn't want to see anyone waste their money getting it because they want it to be quiter. You should get some videos up of your exhaust though, I've never heard it before.

This was just my first day and I am doing some experiementing. It seemed to be louder at 55 than at 60. I was only able to do it a few times, but it seemed like the drone went away at 60? More experimenting. One thing I have found is that by hearing my engine work, I should be able to ease it down the highway and improve my mpg. Touching the pedal registers in the sound wave.

Here is an update on the Super 44 noise level inside the cab. Application is 5.9,1995, magna flow cat. I have 100+ miles on it now
My speed, tachometer and a general description of the drone follow.

MPH..........Tach.......Sound level
At 45mph/1.25 /no drone
At 50mph/1.4ish/slight drone starts
At 55 mph/1.51/loud low drone
At 60mph/1.74/soft to no audible drone
At 70mph/2.0/no audible drone

If normal speaking voice is considered 55dB, I would say it is in the order of 60-65dB. This sound vanishes and sounds like my OEM muffler (no noise) around 61-62mph. No noise at 70, too much traffic to do 75 and 80 mph tests.

Hope this helps if you are thinking of a Super 44. The best sound is at start up and when you are idleing or cruising along around town.
