Summer Project, or am I an Idiot?
There be a lot of HP guys here. & I like HP too.
But the truck is running good and does not seem to need much more than tlc mechanics wise. So after much thought & looking at the pocketbook my plan for the summer is to put a wood bed in. This is going to be total DIY. The Ram had a bed liner which is now gone and getting cut up. The sides of the liner are getting carpeted. Of course if this does not work I would rather have a Herculiner than a drop in anyway.
Pics hereI will set updates>

Just an old guy having fun with a truck & tools.
By wood bed do you mean line the bed with wood, or replace your current bed with wood? Kind of all depends on what the truck is used for.
I would (haha) be concerned with rot, splinters, sap, warping, overall wear leading to uneven surfaces, and the unavoidable white trash factor. Just my honest opinion.

Darn No Pics again!!!! I hope they come up this time.
Just a wood floor for the bottom of the bed. It is not white trash Aim it is CLASSIC.30, 40 50 & 1960's trucks have wood beds. Not worried about Rot or wear or splinters is my toy and a thick coat of acrylic will keep it nice for a long time. I will be hauling & 4 wheeling just not every day, or even every month. The Wood will be on top ot the regular bed floor. Ram 1500 4x4 will never notice the 60 pounds.
Even If I am not happy with the result. The cost will be low, I will learn something & I can try again or not.
Do you really think I want a truck just like yours? or anyone else?

Those pics look sharp. I also like the classic look. I'm a home woodworker also so I like your idea of combining two hobbies into one. Your truck oughta look sharp with the new wood bed and if you're concerned about rot, use redwood. It takes a beautiful clear coat or stain, and won't rot with water.Be sure to get enough drainage under the wood though or you'll rust the original bed out though.
If you're concerned about damaging the wood when loading or hauling rock or something, build a wood bedliner like I have. It's cut out to fit the contours of the sides of my truck, but is elevated enough to fit over my fifth wheel rails. I used 5/8 plywood lumber and heavy duty hinges in the center to allow me to fold it in half. I braced it around the outside and center with cut down scrap 2X4. The hingesmake for less storage space and easy installation into the bed. Inset the hinges so the barrel and flanges don't show above the loading platform. It'll make it easier to shovel rock/dirt/whatever outta the bed. This makes cleanup a snap as only a small amount of the material actually gets down to the bed.

Saw one of these on TRUCKS. Some of them are able to be taken out quickly went you want to use your truck for a truck. I understand they go in very easily.

I too saw this on TRUCKS looks like it went in pretty easil. I love the idea of the classic look and I think it would look totally badass on a genII. should turn out really nice if you decide to go for it.
I just aquired a 1934 dodge pickup cab that i'm going to do a wood floor bed in. If you love the classic look then mod the truck to your likeing and screw what everone else thinks or says. If they don't like it then they know not to copy your ideas. I myself really likes the idea and if you choose to do it post up some pics when you ever get done as i would love to see pics and i'm sure others would too!
