Default Where to buy a catback exhaust system?

Hey everyone,

The exhaust on my truck has rusted off and I need to replace it. My truck is a 97 ram 1500 4x4 ext cab 5.9 V8. I would like to get an exhaust just like the one I have now because I really like the way it sounds. My exhaust is a catback consisting of a Y pipe, 2 tail pipes, and 18" long chrome tips. I have NO muffler and would like to keep it that way. Cost is a factor and I don’t want some overpriced "performance" muffler/exhaust system, just pipe. Does anyone know where I can buy a system that does not have a muffler? I have looked all around the web and at shops in town but have not had any luck. I would rather buy a kit than piece something together. My current system I did the good old way by bending wire and then following the pattern bending pipe. The problem is my pipes have never been centered perfectly. SO does a no muffler, glass pack, cherry bomb, etc. system exist and PLEASE tell me where I can find it.

Thanks

Boss

Maybe eBay. I have no idea. I just had a local shop custom make my exhaust when I had it redone. IMO thats probably the way to go if you have in mind what design you want.

Yeah, I think I've seen some on Ebay before, but by the time you pay for shipping you are way better off to just get someone locally to hook you up. That will most likely be the best deal, especially if you do not need a new catalytic converter.

+1 for your local shop. If you know a good one, never hurts to pay that little bit extra into the local economy anyway.

I dont believe your going to find a " no muffler kit". You could buy a system like yours with a muffler and gut it, or buy some pipe to make up for not installing the muffler. Then sell the muffler on ebay as new and not used. Having a custom job done, is a great idea +1 for that.

The JC Whitney kit comes with mufflers in the tips. The kit is made by "Heartthrob" so I called up Heartthrob and ordered the pieces I wanted. They gave me a great deal and shipping was only 20 and change, but thats becasue I live close to northern MN. Now my pipes "look right" coming out the back. When this thing rusts off in 3-4yrsI'llhave a local shop bend new pipesusing the other pipes asa guide. Well I get to install my sweet new exhaust. Thanks for the replies.

Northern Minnesota? Your pipes will rust out sooner than 3-4 years. I'd probably say you're pushing it with three.

Sorry, had to give ya a hard time. Seen many, many cars and trucks at dealerships that originally came from northern Minnesota and have lots of rust on them. A lot more than normal. Maybe its just coincidence, maybe I'm just crazy...

...or maybe I'm the last sane person left.
