Default round air cleaner issues

hey everyone, aside from my current headache, that I call my jeep (posted in other thread). I really want to put a round air cleaner in my truck, now before you tell me to use the search, I'm not asking how to do it, I'm simply asking is anybody really think this can get more horse power then a cold air intake. I understand the idea behind the round air cleaner....more air=morehorse power, but my concern is my truck curently sucks air through the fender somehow, if i put a round air cleaner wont the air be hot resulting in less horse power. I agree that these things look cool and take me back to when I was 10 and we had a 88 dodge 4x4 (man that thing was awesome 35x12.50 with no lift, lincoln locked front and rear end. That thing would go anywhere.

Back to my point, if this thing made more horsepower, then wouldn't dodge have put one on it stock

This thread seems to be asked hourly. Not trying to be a dick but search. There is a post just like this a few posts down from yours even.

+1 on that. This is becoming the replacement for the "whats the largest tire I can fit under a stock ram" thread. Tap over a couple screens, theres 28 pages of forum thread devoted to this subject.

Does more air equals more horsepower? I thought compression, cams, and other mechanicals is what made the big HP possible. Perhaps I am wrong.

BTW: more sound does not equal more HP either. I put a new hi flow exhaust on my truck, and I hope for 1 mpg and am praying for 2. That just because my old system was OEM, 13 years old, and plugged up.

I think you guys are getting the wrong idea from me...I'm not trying to be a jerk saying that people who think more hp is achieved by these. My question is that does the increase in air overcome the increase in air temperature. As for the round air cleaner vs CAI it doesnt say anything about hp gains, and isnt that what everyone wants. Also something else I was thinking about, would the increase in intake air temperature hurt the computer or cause any idle mixture problems

What are you talking about BigRamaniac, I understand that all of those things equal more HP, and that dual exhaust doesnt always equal HP, but the fact does remain that more air does equal more HP. superchargers and turbochargers

There are no numbers on the box as far as increase hp with the open air cleaner. I know for a fact that the bolded above is answered in the FIPK no more thread. Please do a search again. I will just say that in my opinion, I dont care if the temp rises. My fathers 74 vette has an open air cleaner and is pretty much sealed off in the engine compartment, besides the small cowl induction hood that came stock. Even though that is a carb'd vs. efi. Its more of a personal feeling I guess since no one is on a dyno all day testing all of these on the same vehicle. Swap ur stock snorkle back on during the summer if it becomes an issue.

I live in florida so heat is and always will be an issue, here everybody worries about their truck and during the summer, pulling a 6,000 lb trailer i have seen and been ok with trucks running up to 250 degrees, I honestly think that 250 degree air sitting around the motor would hurthp. With that being said, I still may do the swap, simply because simple is better, it always has been and always will be.

imo your overthinking it too much.

250* is a bit obsurd.

Because of the pleneum type design the air is hot by the time it enters the engine anyway so from what I've read the air cleaner drawing cold air doesn't matter that much since as soon as it leaves the air cleaner it gets hot anyway before going to the engine.

is it just the kegger design that causes air to heat up, or is it something else. Would a kegger modification allow the air to stay cooler, or does it just help it flow. About the temps, I'm not kidding, I have personally seen trucks reach 150 and that is ok, but my jeep grand cherokee with a 5.2 v8, I have seen it reach 260, I pulled over and let it idle, for a while. (I have since put a 180 thermostat and a new water pump, but it still reaches 140).

During the summer we see heat in excess of 100 degrees with 100% humidity. And when your pulling a pallet of sod that weighs 5000lbs plus the trailor, that poor old motor just works up a sweat thats all. Also as a side note the jeep has over 200,000 miles so the heat hasnot hurt it too much. I have asked around the forum about the possibility of a oil cooler to help my truck, as I want to prevent my truck from severely overheating as my jeep did.

I am going to buy a huge tranny cooler and mount in front of my condenser, I am going to disconnect the radiator cooler. From my understanding the oil gets hotter then the water in an engine, so I think a remote filter and using the stock tranny cooler would help lower that temp right.

I've had people tell me I'm crazy for letting the truck over heat like that, but I honestly think that with AMS OIL heavy duty deisel oil the oil does not burn at that temperature, it takes more heat and that is how my motors last so long
