Thanks for everyones advise, I stayed away from this truck...

Still want a dodge though - here is the new one I am looking at, any advise would be great:

2002 Ram 2500HD - 113k miles
5.9 V8
Trailer/Tow package
SLT
Plow Package
Boss HD 7'6 plow
Body is in decent condition - with a few dings, nothing major
Negociated $7,100 for everything, was asking $7,500 for truck only firm

 

The fact that it has a plow on it would be a sure sign to me to stay away from that one. Plow trucks have usually had a hard life. I wouldn't really want a 5.9L in a 2500 either. I mean I guess it would be okay but you can get better motors in that truck like the V10 or CTD which will have a lot more power.

 

I understand that it may have had a hard life, the plow is 2 years old (he has the reciepts of $4k). It seems that the truck is priced low though? Even if it has had a hard life, the price is pretty low no? I test drove this - drove straight and strong 4x4 works no noises.

BTW - it also had the tranny changed at 70k under warrenty

List of factory Options:: SLT Customer Preferred Package, Heavy Duty Service Group, Trailer Tow Group, HD Snow Plow Group, Camper prep Group, Two Tone, Storage Comp, auto trans 46re, Anti spin differential with 4.1 ratio, Rear Sliding window,Clearance lamps.

Any other thoughts out there? How is it for the price? Would love to hear some more opinions.

 

Right now as a buyer you are in one sweet place. Dont take any truck that leaks, has a banged up body, or any noise that is not normal.

For 5 grand you should be able to pick up a 99 to 2000 4x4 1500 in near cherry shape.Keep looking, spending a couple of weeks finding that cherry will be worth it.

PS paid 6 for mine at Christmas. Came with Cap, Bedliner, Near perfect engine, (it was dirty) & near perfect body.

find somthing with the V-10 you will get alot more power for when you need it, around the same MPG of a V-8 and the braging rights associated with having 4 times the engine of that POS civic sitting next to you.

i dont know anyting about 3rd gen rams so i cant tell you anything about a 2002 beond what i stated above

 

Thanks - the 2002 2500HDis actually the 2nd gen body style. I checked out the truck - running great - has a great plow (one of the best you can buy) and was WAY under book value. Decided it was a great deal I could not pass up on and picked it up.
