Default 1997 1500 died on freeway, shows code 56. What's 56?

My mom has a 97 Ram. It's died twice on her on the freeway at higher RPMs. Runs fine in town until she gets it out and gets the speed up.

the ol' On-Off-On-Off-On method showed the following:
12- Start of Codes (i don't buy this disconnect within 50 starts BS, the battery hasn't been disconnected in over a year, and my Neon gives me the same code EVERY time i run them.)
43- Multiple Misfire. It stumbled hard before dying.
56- New one on me. I'm not seeing this one ANYWHERE online, it certainly doesn't apply to my Neon, or any of the PL/JA/PT body cars, I've never seen it before.
55- End of codes.

I've never seen 56, has anyone here? There's no Autozone in the area, or I'd run it to them, have them run codes... but this one is a new one on me!

I haven't looked under the hood too much so I have a couple basic questions.
1: Is there an inline fuel-filter, or only the in-pump sock like my Neon?
2: Does the truck have a MAP, or a MAF sensor? (i know the MAP code, but if the ram = MAF, that might be why I don't know the code!)
3: I could solve this one by going out and looking, but it's 2am, and 20 degrees out. Truck is a DIS system right? No distributor, but a coilpack instead? (If it's a dist, again might explain why I don't know the code!)

Anyone have any ideas for me on this one?

Thanks!

It could be an 0xygen sensor or fuel pump.

try this site:

http://2carpros.com/faq.htm

there are various q & a's for problems to include stalling and sensors.

but codes are sometimes difficult to troubleshoot over the web.

Yah, i'm thinking pump, too. I just kind of want to narrow things down before I throw cash at the problem, you know?

In order to "find out" things about my truck problems, I sometimes call around to the local Dodge dealers a dick around with them to get some insight. Try that. Call a dealership and say that another dealership's service or a mechanic idicated that the stalling problem is related to a fuel pump, or could it be an 02 sensor that is causing the stall.

I get real cheap when it comes to this stuff.

it's up to you

get out the yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking.... call repair shops and get ideas.

I see an immediate problem here. You're asking about code 56 (which doesn't exist), but code 55 is the end of codes. Code 55 will be the last code, and highest numerically that you'll get (besides codes 62 and 63, which have nothing to do with your problem), so the code 56 you're asking about is wrong. There is no code 56, and you certainly wouldn't get it before or after code 55.

I'll doublecheck the codes in the AM, but i swear it was 56... and it did come before 55. I'm really starting to doubt myself on this one though, because I can't find it anywhere! I'm about to reset the PCM, and steal the truck from my mom for a day or 2 to see if it happens again.

What about codes 72 and 77? (their P-codes are P0420 and P1683 respectively)

But I have to admit, I've never seen or heard of code 56 either.

Yup, I forgot about those two, but it's actually 71 (P1682) and 72 (P0420), not 77.
