Default Hood pin?

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get hood pins to stay straight up and perminantly in that position? My hood latch has been getting stuck and causing me headakes, not to mention comming undone on the highway (not related to the repair, always has...yes iv gotten it replaced under the recall). I decided to get rid of it and just use hood pins. I am having trouble keeping them straight up and down, they like to angle off. I cant tighten both nuts flush because it will cause the pins to be at an angle. Aside from cutting washers up as angle shims is there anything else? Sorry for the dumb question, first time Iv used pins.

Could you trim a heavy rubber grommet at an angle and then cinch thenut up snug against that? Either that or grind down some sort of aluminum spacer to contour to the hood and cinch that up for strength.

That's all assuming I'm envisioning your dilemma correctly.

You got it. I already tried the rubber, but it just moves out of the way when I tighten it or it squishes. Im probably just going to use washers as spacers and grind them to match the contour. I just dont want to waste time doing something so pointless. Iv had a string of that lately.

i gotcha. I was thinking of doing that, but Id rather do as little damage to the truck as possible. I guess basicly I just want someone to do it for me HAHA! Tomorrow Ill get to work on those spacers.
