Do spark Knocks generally occur at higher rpms? Like I said before It sounds like its coming from below me and not infront of me, also seems to want to start happening the closer I get to OD, when I turn OD Off it seems to do it less.. I also just switched out the spark plugs and didnt see any real bad detoriation(sp) on them cept the fact that they were just old and needed replacement

well, from all the research Ive done, lol I'll keep my mind open that it could be a spark knock, since it seems that it could be one of both, eventhough the noise sounds like its coming from beneath me, I have to keep in consideration that im a total newb and that I am probably wrong lol. First thing is first, Ill make it ma project to check the torque converter bolts and pray i find loose bolts./. if bolts are ok, then Ill go about remedying possible spark knock.. the funny thing is, the mechanic I took it too didnt check the torque converter bolts ( A friend mechanic) he just told me to use a higher viscous oil and told me to use higher grade oil and change my spark plugs none of which seems to help. Lol woulda been easier to check the bolts whilst the car was lifted though lol. Anyways.. In case it did turn out to be a spark knock , should I try to use an Oil additive to see if it helps? or a fuel additive? I'll keep on researching ;-)

Thanks for all your input I really apreciate all your help :-)

your motor is detonating. detonation only happens under load. put 93 octane in it and see if the sound goes away. if so, put 91 in it and see if it detonates.use the lowest octane possible without detonating. DO NOT drive around anymore without fixing this problem or you will be buying a new motor.

so Im not driving my truck anymore just in case.. although I will try the higher octaine again to see if that makes a diffrence. ... Im also gonna check the TC Bolts .,. So here's my current game plan, let me know what ya'll think. After doing a bit of research on this forum and others and other websites and also reading my chilton and xmass present pdf Ive come up with a couple of things to do to maybe make it run better.

But first.. Ive been reading allot about EGR valves and I cant find a mention of where its located in ma book, and would an EGR valve for any Magnum V8 5.9 work? since a quick search and I cant find one for 1999 dodge ram, although I thought the engine hasnt changed much since the mid-90's? ( I know, Im a newb). And since its not even mentioned in the book, does this engine even have an EGR valve? or does it have something else that does the same job? from the description of what it does almost sounds like a PCV Valve. ( heh I feel like a college student all over agaiN).. anywyas.. here's my list of things to do..

1: Probably needs a new Dist cap.
2: Tune up maybe?
3: PCV Valve
4: (spark plugs already new)
5:New Sparkplug wires
6: EGR if so equiped?

Also would any Fuel additive or oil additive be a good idea as well?

Thanks a bunch for all your help so far!!

ok, had half tank already with 87, filled the other half with premium, and wouldnt you know it.. Im a dumb *ss and I think I do have a spark knock, however, I checked inside the air intake, I couldnt get a good look, but from what I saw, it looked dry,, needs ta get me a ladder or somefin to really look into it.. So knocking doenst occurr nearly as much with the mixture I have now, and as before doesnt occur at all when driving at lower speads unless I floor it up a hill or something. This is the last post Ill make in this thread as It is getting too long for one problem. Ill keep everyone updated that's interested heh

Thanks!!!!!!! :-D
