New Exhaust MPG Update+bad news.
My new exhuast was showing some real good numbers. It looked like I could put 450 on a tank. What happened was the last 2 runs (120 miles) my truck would not stay in overdrive. It would switch in and out hang for a little while then in and out. I could see the gas gauge going down. I checked the fluid and it was a little low. I put the rest of a bottle of Lucas ATF condintioner in.
I pulled into a Mobil and filled up, had 4 gallons left in the tank MPG was 17.01. That is still above my average, but you know, I wonder what it would have been if the tranny was not acting up.

RE: New Exhaust MPG Update+bad news.
Maybe if someone wanted better mileage they should keep up with their maintenance...Not only that but just taking it easy on the throttle doesn't hurt either. Light use of the foot and your guarenteed to get better mileage.
Today I got my truck back and hooked up my new scanguage to it.
On a 30 mile trip I used 1.9* gallons of fuel averaging around 15.7 - 16 MPG. This is with a 200 Lbs. Lumber rack on the back while doing 65- 85 MPH on the freeway on relatively level terrain.
Granted I do have all my maintenance up to par, but my truck is far from perfect. I don't have my regular fuel and additives in the tank which makes a difference, I didn't max out my tire pressure today, my plenum is leaking, I probably have at least 1 bad lifter, I'm not yet using synthetic in the motor, my injectors are dirty, and there are a few other things I've yet to mention but hey, 17 aint too far off if everything is taken care of, so people... Maybe it's time to get back up to par seeing as how fuel prices aint never going to come back down.

I think some of you misunderstand me. The bad news is a possible tranny replacement. 17.01
Was 1 mpg improvement, and 2 over the last time I ran it. I am happy.
I do expect the tranny to go down, and I promise to take it like a man-no complaining.
Could it be the control module? It will run about 1500, then pop upt to 1750 then pop up to 2200 on the tach, then back and forth like that. Some time the shifts are hard, and it jerks the trucks. The one transmission I did have go down was on an 89 Dakota, and that was a pump inside, it is not acting like that at all.
