Larger dia tc is not prefered, puts more wt farther from the center costing more driveline loss.
Pick a stall speed that is 500rpms below where the motor is making peak torque
Alsowhen picking a tc you want one that hasthe support as close to the top of the shaft as possible. Pics below show the difference between the weaker APS and stronger Viper convertors. Look at the difference of the supports placement below the yellow caps in both pics. Yellow cap on the APS looks taller also. Thats what Im refering to.
Lastly, look at the welds on the outside at the bottom. The APS looks like its tacked on compared to the Viper tc which is welded all the way around. Pay almost double for the Viper but you get what you pay for IMHO. (in most cases)

APS 2400 stall tc

Viper 9.5"

Only thing different is you have to add the supplied tranny/motor spacer and longer dowls
Couldnt find a pic of the APS Pro Billet tc, maybe similar to the Viper tc.
That bracket fighter tc in pic above looks like a reworked oemtc.

cool. $1k is a little more than Im looking to spend right now, so that will wait for later. I estimate my peak tq to be at 3800, I cant find any 3300 converters which is why I am lookign at 3000s. The vipers do offer a wide range so I would assume they could make one for 3300 as well. Before I order one Im going to jump on a dyno to get a true idea where it is making peak. All I have to go by now is desktop dynos which all pritty much say about the same thing.

Thats another company I've heard good things about for transmissions. They however seem to only offer a lock up one in 2500rpm stall. I don't know how you know if the APS one is lockup or not I didn't see that. Anyway might be worth giving Dr. Evil Transmissions a call and see what they have.

I know when they built my transmission, Billy (aka Dr. Evil) told me that he was having my torque converter specifically built for my application. Being that Billy knows Chrysler trannies (he holds many patents on them) and does specific testing for Raybestos I believe him to be one of the best out there.

Hope he can help you out.

Cool. Maybe they will be able to get you one of those at a resonable price. Do you have any upgrades to your transmission or is it mostly stock?

this is a daily driven street truck with a cam that doesnt like over 6000 rpm. 3000 stall is too tight, you know that. and if you put a converter like that behind your transmission say goodbye to that trans, then subsiquently say goodbye to the new converter you just bought. say goodbye to your gas mileage too, a 3000 stall with be slipping the entire time you are on the highway and heating up like a **** yo yo. pull the trans and do it right. but in my opinioni still think you need to focus on the HALF DONE PROJECTS YOU HAVE SITTING IN YOUR GARAGE. lets put it in perspective:

you dont hook up as it is...HOW IS A CONVERTER GONNA HELP YOU?you're getting the bug again and going crazy.

are you going to the track friday definetly?
