The thing that may hurt with the housing is shipping. You will probably have to get a frieght company to ship it which may be a few hundred. Still should be a lot cheaper than $1000 if you can find one cheap enough.

Or you may be able to just drive a few hours to get one if they aren't too far away.

Thank You. I just asked him as well. It has 3.55 gearing, so I'll be reusing my 4.10 gearing. I take it this one won't come with an lsd though, so I'll just have to buy a new carrier to make it an open differential right?

If it doesn't have a LSD and is complete as it sounds it will already have the open diff carrier in there.

Man, I have a complete 9.25 rear end sitting in my trailer behind my house. You want the whole thing cheap? I got one for you. Just remember, I'm in california so shipping aint free. Other then that, until you buy that then you need to show us more then just one stupid picture. That's all you got? What about those spider gears and the carrier that are supposed to be in need of replacing? Did you camera only have enough film for one picture? WTF? Take pictures of everything!

And Stop Whining! If you would just get underneath your truck and deal with these little issues you would being sitting pretty right now inside your nice looking truck. The only thing that I can say sucks about your situation is that your paying someone to do it for you at a rate of 50+ dollars an hour...

They say that the whole rear end pretty muchs needs to be replaced? BullShiot! People put those things through alot more then what you have and what do they do? They use it untill the whole thing needs to be replaced just like you should. If it needs to be replaced, make sure you are the reason why it needs to be replaced. clean it up, pull the LSD and run with it. If you end up really messing it up, who cares. You need to fix the whole thing anyway right? Stop worrying about it so much. It's not just going to fall apart overnight. Your going to have to drive around and abuse that thing like crazy for it to just fail. And last but not least, If it's not able to stay true in it's place and it's really alot worse then it seems, why is it that you haven't heard a peep coming from it? Those things howl when they are on their way out, and what was it that you heard again? O yeah, a mechanic telling you what's wrong and how much it's going to cost to fix it... F*($ that!

by the way, After looking at the picture I wouldn't be worried at all. Your carrier is held in place inside of that big round opening built into that cast iron thick *** heavy duty thing called a rear end that doesn't just crack and fall apart very easily since it's close to a 1/2 inch thick!. That surface looks nice and smooth to me so I can't imagine why it would not hold true. And look at the gears. if anything was seriously chipped and thrown around inside the diff, your gears would look chewed up. I don't see anything but part of the pinion so I can't say that that's not the case but who knows... Any more pictures?

Image if he sold that truck, and then a few weeks later someone joined on here saying they bought this sweet lifted black Ram with a HD transmission from some kid in Maine, but it's making some werid noises in the rear.

I would wonder if that rear is not so bad that you couldn't just install an open carrier into it, and then sell it that way. If they're saying that the damage may only give you problems later down the road, then it might be good enough to just install the parts and sell it soon. That might be cheaper then getting a used rear end that might have issues of its own. Just some ideas i'm tossing out.

Well guys, I really don't want to sell this truck, I have no intensions of doing so. At least not right now. Maybe even a year or 2. Anyways, all the other parts seemed to be good. So are you saying maybe install everything back in it again, and make it an open carrier? And just roll with it? I mean, what if it is infact messed up, I don't want it to destroy my ring and pinion gears etc. How much would you send me yoour 9.25? IF it's a decent price, I think it'd be worth not messing around with this axle, and just starting fresh with yours. I assume it's in good condition as well.

Slomojo, I called the guy back at the shop. And I asked him how my parts were from the housing. He told me they were all in pretty much good shape, but he just didn't want to reinstall them inside the housing. I told him somebody from my dodgeforum has a 9.25 rear axle that he can send me. I take its an open carrier correct? Either way, it won't matter, I didn't want a factory LSD in there to begin with. This way I'll have plenty of time to save up for a nice LSD. The mechanic told me that all I would need is a new bearings kit and I think he said a shim kit for the open carrier? Does that sound right? So if you are willing to send me that 9.25 rear axle, I'd be VERY interested in doing so. Let me know how much your looking for to send it to South Portland, Maine! THANK YOU!!!
