Hate to do it, but no new Oil Filter threads or updates...
I am changing my bike over to amsoil on this next oil change, and I guess if my bike likes it than my truck will come next. I do not know about going 10,000-15,000 on an oil change, but like I said if the bike likes it than maybe I will give it a try.
You would have to cut one open and see the materials that the filter is made of. I have seen oil pressure increases just from taking a fram filter off and replacing it with a quality filter. The thing with the filters exploding istrue, because at the end of last year Fram had to recall some racing oil filters for the exact problem.
I don't think Fram would be a problem for a 3K changeout, I just wouldn't go extended duty cycles on them after I have seen one cut open.
I have no loyalties to Fram, thats just whats always jumped off the wall into my cart! If the whole blowing up issue is truly valid than yeah I'll change. Hell, STP is actually cheaper than Fram. Theres just usually more Frams on the wall so naturally thats what a lot of people grab.

I hate to be the thorn in everyones side, but, I've never, ever had a problem with a Fram filter. Used 'em in everycar I've owned.

Before I tried to get 'em in at every 3000. But that was with conventional. Now that I'm running on synthetic I'll probably go at about 5 grand. If I was running Torco oil, I'd probably spend the money on a k&n filter or something a lot better than fram because I do know that its only a cardboard filter and it won't hold up near as long as a high quality oil.
Cheap oil, cheap filter. Good oil, good filter.

Thanks for giving me some good info. I think since oil filters are updated and changed frequently we need to refreshen that topic, just slightly. no 34 page threads, lol, but some good reviews are always a blessing in disguise.
A mopar filter at wal mart is 5 bucks. My fram was 4, and I'm only putting 100-200 miles on this change anyway, so Fram will be fine. I haven't seen any wix filter, unless that is the head line for purolater? I noticed sears uses powerflo, and my dad has had a powerflo filter on his for god knows how long (his truck is wayyy overdue an oil change), so I wouldn't mind one of those filters either.
Doesn't matter the brand, some are lemons regardless. The tech at Advance was telling me that K&N filters aren't worth it for daily driving because oil pressure won't be a factor, and that's the key that K&N's do is withstand so much psi. Thought that was good insight.
I don't like this knock on Fram though, because I've used the filters before and so had my dad. Just because the inside doesn't match up with some better brands, doesn't mean you can't get your money's worth. Plus, Fram sells more filters than anyone, so naturally there will be more oddball things that occur. I'm not for or against Fram, just think they are perfectly acceptable for moderate situations.

We also use Purolator filters as well.
From a review that I read, the Supertech oil filters that Wal-Mart sells are better than Fram. That's what I use on my wife's car, along with Mobil 1 Clean 5000. But I change hers between 3-4K. I used to use Fram, and I gotta say, I never had any issues. But, according to Amsoil, the best filter, as far as how small of particles it'll catch, is the Wix (who makes Napa Gold). I have been using Napa's filter with Valvoline Max Life Synthetic 10W30. I think I am going to switch to all Mobil 1...high efficiency filter and 10W30 High Mileage synthetic...change every 6K/6 months. All those horsepower gains from Royal Purple...look where they are at...usually between 5-6K rpm's. Who drives in that rpm range???
