I've heard nothing but bad or neutral comments about STP.

Mopars are rebranded filters made by one of a couple different companies. Not worth it IMO, as some Mopars, I believe, were junk Frams.

I use Mobil1 filters because they are cut open and found to be one of the best constructed/flowing (independent reviews). That being said, the person tested them, K&N, Purcolator, Fram, and another brand, can't remember the name. But Mobil1 and K&N were the best constructed ones. Now I've heard really good things about Wix, and I've seen a cut out of them (local auto parts store has a cut out comparing Fram and Wix internals), and I'm sold on them. Thats the next filter I'm going to use.

I finally found Royal Purple oil the other day. There are four or five big auto stores here in town, and only one carries Royal Purple. I'll stick with Mobil1 oil for now, however, as that has given me no troubles and was recommended to me by a couple mechanics I trust. I've heard good things about Amsoil, mixed reviews on the Royal Purple.

 

Wix filters can be bought at a Napa store or O'Riellys, and they are good filters. The Powerflo oil filters are a commercial boxed purolator filter that Advance Auto Parts sells to commercial customers, they are just boxed in a cheaper box and plain graphics on the filter itself.

I have used the K&N oil filters before and love them for the reason of the nut on the end of the filter, but because of the material they use inside to get a better filtering of the oil it can be alittle restrictive on a daily driven motor. Honeywell that makes Fram is a good company that makes good products, but they need to improve the filters that they make to match the hype they put with it.

 

Look at what is arguably the biggest racing industry in the USA...NASCAR. Their official oil is Mobil 1. Can't go wrong with that...

 

Mobil 1 is also the oil that companies like Mercedes and BMW use and design their engines around, and you can't go wrong with that.

 

Mobil1 is a good oil, so is Pennzoil Platinum considering their price.
Amsoil is definitely one of the best at any price but I don't think it is worth the price unless you run it over 10k
Fram (orange can) filters aren't bad filters. They are very cheaply made though. For the same price (or less) as an Orange Fram you can get better. Wix/NAPA filters are a good bargain filter. Soare Purolator and Supertec. The Mobil 1 and Amsoil filters are very goodand so isthe Purolator Pure 1. Mopar filters are nothing special. They used to be Fram's but now most are made by Purolator.

I've seen quite a few Used Oil Analysis(UOA)of Royal Purple and it hasn't impressed me at all.
It protects slightly better than average and I think the reason it show slightly higher HP is because it is on the thin side of grade.

CRAP...I have been using those awful Fram filters and have only gotten a measly 195K and 13 years out of my engine!! Think what I could have gotten with a WIX! Oh...wait a minute....

Get real gents. Change it every 5000 and you will never have a problem. The only filter I ever saw bad was a Target brand that my dad had to cut off as the can collapsed when taking off with a filter wrench.

 

I have heard that before that change the oil every 3,000 miles like clockwork and it doesn't matter what you use because it does not matter, but that is not a good way to look at maintiance. Why not use quality parts when maintianing your vehicles and just think how much longer they will last, then using parts that are junk. Fram has had one recall on thier racing oil filters last year, because they were exploding on the cars. I have also heard that they were looking into the motorcycle filters, because the internals of the filters are coming apart and stopping up the oil pumps. I think that all people are saying is that why not spend a couple more dollars at every oil change and buy a good oil filter and a quaility oil, instead of grabbing whatever has a good advertising campaign. Sometimes the best parts you can buy are the ones that do not spend multi-millions on selling you on an image.

 

I like Royal Purple oil and run it in all my cars or trucks. I change it every 3-4k miles. I like to do it every 3k but sometimes it's 4k before I can do it.

I've never run Amsoil in a car but I've run it in my bikes and it seems okay too.

I use Purolator Pure One filters on my truck, Honda filters on the 06 Honda, AC Delco filters on the Chevy, and I had been running Purolator regular filters on the 96 Accord but I put a Napa Gold on it this last time which is made by Wix. It costs a little more but I've always heard Wix is one of the best.

I don't like this change your oil every 15k miles or even every 10k. I like using good oil and still changing it every 3k-5k miles.

I had used fram's before, but somehow always had a problem with them sealing correctly. My buddy uses them as well but... the rubber rings always seem to separate from the filter when he removes it. My local parts plus sells wix filters and I have never had a problem with wix filters, ever! (knock on wood). Even though its more convienient to pick upthe mobil 1 full synthetic and fram filter at walmart, i take that extra min down the road to get the wix filter. Everyone has there preference, but I perfer piece of mind.
