Default Ever Rebuilt Your Own Tranny?

I want to know if anyone here has rebuilt his own Ram transmission. This website has some awesome rebuild parts and the instructions manual. I'm more of a technically oriented DIY guy, which is why I want to handle the job myself. I consider it an educational experience as well. So, if you've done your own rebuild, I would like to hear from you regarding how you went about it, caveats, and all that.

honestly they are not that hard to rebuild, I would suggest buying a manual and reading it before you try it. The hardest part is the valve body, because there are little springs and little *****, that if not put inthe right place will not work properly and will cause problem. you can buy an entire rebuild kit, complete with bearings, seals, clutches, and steels for only like 300-400 dollars, compare that to a 1500 transmission

Exactly, what I'm talking about. From what I understand, the "secret" to rebuilding any automatic transmission is cleanliness and keeping all parts oiled. I have apprehensions about taking my transmission to one of those "chain" shops, because I've heard horror stories from people who've had to take the damned thing back three or four times to get it fixed properly. Small shops are OK, but finding a good transmission builder can be daunting.

exactly right. If you do it yourself, take your time and you will be very satisfied with the result. The one thing that you will need done, is having your torque convertor rebuilt, or buying a new one.

Yeah, chain transmission shops are bad news. Remember, AAMCO= All Automatics Must Come Out.
