I am looking to do the 14x3 filter mod, I live an hour away from the parts store I need to go to to get this stuff so I want to make sure I get the right stuff the first time. What is the list of things I need from Auto Zone/ Advance. I have normal over priced auto parts stores here in town but they don't carry stuff like that. Thanks in advance. Oh I have a 98 SST with the 5.9 V8

 

You'll need a air cleaner designed for a holley throttle body, (most common one, don't sweat it.)
A filter to fit inside (no more than 3")
A small hacksaw to romove a hanging bolt in the engine bay, as well as cutting off the "S" bolt.
A 1/4" X 20 threaded rod (to make "S" bolt)
something to bend the rod with. (I just used vise grips and the edge of a work bench)
A wingnut that fits 1/4" X 20
Optional 1/4" X 20 lock nut to hold "S" bolt in place
new air cleaner gasket if your's is crummy.

 

What's an air cleaner gasket?

 

It is the gasket that goes between the air cleaner assembly and the throttle body.

 

its a round gasket that goes between the TB and air cleaner , sits on the TB.

a round gasket. hmmm is it the bottom of the air cleaner? lol. I don't think mine came with one.

 

I'm not aware of a round air cleaner that does. I just reused the stock one that was already there when I put my CAI on.

 

uhhh. Ok maybe I need a pic? mine just sits right on top of the TB. There's four notches it goes around. Did yours come off the stock airbox?
