valvetrain noise after oil change
i recently changed my oil from valvoline 5-30 to mobil-1 5-30 and i am hearing what sounds to be like a whining noise when i am at idle and when i give it some slight throttle. i guess i am just wondering if anyone else has noticed something like this as well. the truck still runs fine

although i've never been entirely sold on the "different engines like different oils", but my truck doesn't seem to like quaker...more lifter noise.

i use castrol syntech and moble 1 filter and love it. castrol syntech cuz it has the coolest lookin quart and moble 1filter cuz it the only one ive seen spacificly for synthetic oil
well i can get mabile 1 for only a dollar more a quart than regular dion oil from a buddys shop, so i think ill just keep running it. Im planning on changing my oil every 6000 miles, so in the long run ill be saving some money.
Froesen, how exactually go about checking my idler pulley? can i feel the slop in it if i wiggle it or is it easier to just get a new one.
BTW
Anyone want a 99 dodge??? i need a car

Always, ALWAYS buy your oil based on the cool looking container!
There are lots of other filters that are excellent for syn oils. The Mobil 1 filter is an excellent design though. Only filter I can think that is better is possibly the new Amsoil filters but I think they are both made by the same company.

Take the belt off by using a wrench on the spring-loaded idler (passenger side) bolt, push it in and pop the belt off the alternator...with the spring tension released, spin that idler and the one located inbetween and below the alternator and a/c compressor. if they're bad, any parts store has them, easy swap. spin your alternator and w/p while you have the belt off.
I am using Quaker State High Mileage oil and my valve ticking went away. I got it because it has an additive that is supposed to help the oil seals from drying out. I also noticed my front main seal doesn't leak anymore.
I was a doubter, but I guess its working, another oil change or two... and I will check it again. I did get WIX Oil filters, and will not get those FRAMS. When I took mine off I turn it upside down to let the oil drain out and I saw something that looked like paper/cardboard shrapnel. I change my oil every 3K. I drive all backroads and rarely go over 55mph, 2000 rpms, and only 245 miles a week. So, I guess I might be changing my oil a little early, but its old and doing it myself is cheaper. This big turd truck has to last forever!!
