Seat Belt Blues....
I have recently swapped cabs (I'll brag about it later when I've worked the bugs out). My instrument panel seat belt light is annoying me. It comes on when I first switch on the ignition, like the other lights, then goes out. About 15 seconds later, it comes back on, and stays on. I always wear my seatbelt, so this is very puzzling. I have tried changing the module under the middle seat, and exchanging the belt mechanism with the old one, and removing the positive cable for about 15 minutes, but nothing's changed. Thankx!!
Were the cabs the same years? IF the cabs were off even one year or some other change will effect the dash wiring.
It may not be the seatbelt light. Your Oil light may be on but the wiring is to the seat belt light. I rewired the cab of a 72 Chevy pickup a while back with a harness from a one year different Chevy. All the plugs fit perfect. The truck fired up. Hit the left blinker & high beam light came on. Had to move some of the wires around.
You need to check the wiring diagram for the dash harness.

Same year, 1500 to 1500, but my old cab had only power windows and locks, where my new one has that plus a security system, overhead computer console, keyless remote entry, and elecronic day/night mirrors. The way it goes out then comes back on makes me think there's a system problem, but for the life of me I can't think of what.

A switch operates that light, it's either normally open or normally closed. Have you unbuckled the seatbelt to see if the light goes off?
Use an ohm meter to test the wires going TO the seat belt buckle, test the wires with the buckle latched and with it unlatched. their should be a change in continuity between the two(one should have continuity, and one shouldn't). that will let you know that the switch is working. if the switch is working, unhook the battery and trace the wires while checking continuity (there may be a short or broken wire). That should keep you busy for a lil while....
