K&N Filter
Anybody here have the K&N filter that went with their K&N intake kit? I know most of you don't run that kit anymore, so figured I ask. I bought mine used on ebay, and the filter that came with it appears to be a lost cause even with a recharger kit. So just wondering if anybody here would be willing to part ways with their FIPK II intake filter for cheap?
No, it's not the airhat design. I have the K&N FIPK II kit. VIP wants $58 for a new filter, something I am not spending on a simple filter. Haven't had a chance to test the kit though lol. Truck has been disabled the last two weeks, but I've been eager to see how it is. I have it all mounted very nicely, and really like the way it looks. I made a custom bracket for it as well because the bitch who sent it to me on Ebay pretty much sent none of the hardware I needed to install the kit. All she sent me was two rusty *** heatshields. I had to custom fabricate the throttle body screw, the tb gasket, the bracket...I was pissed off to say the least. Fortunately I only paid $75, and it looks really nice now.
What's actually wrong with your filter?
These are universal filters I'm sure you could match one up. Just measure the size of theintake pipe.
It doesn't even have to me K&N if you don't want.

No I mean round filter like the Hondas and stuff use. You know what I'm talking about. I have one on my K&N CAI on my Honda. Just the smaller round cone style filters. Or is it something different than this?
I say put it back on eBay for sale and get your money back if you can then get the round filter. Thats what I'd do. As far as keeping it though which for that price isn't too bad of a deal I think you may be stuck buying a new one. Hopefully you will get lucky and find someone with one though.
BTW whats VIP? I keep hearing you mention it but I've never heard of it. Is it like a Advance Auto or Autozone or is it a shop that you get to do work?

Thats what I'm talking about. You can go to advance and they sell, K&N, APC, and maybe some other brands. Some local performance shops sell ZEX and other brands too. The Zex ones are kind of cool as they have a spot to hook nitrous into the filter. so you don't have to drill into the intake. I thought it was cool when I saw them at a shop.

Lol really, you haven't heard of VIP? Maybe it's just a new england thing? They are a parts, tire, and service center. They have them everywhere around here. They are filled with a bunch of psuito mechanics. The only thing I trust them to do is balance, rotate, and allign my vehicle. But their stores are like an Autozone and a Napa. But yeah Rabbler, that is a good point. I'll just find out what size the cone filter is, and just buy a new one on ebay. I mean, I can use this filter, but as I've said in the past, I'm just very particular with things, and just want to know my engine is sucking air through a new filter lol. I'll just keep researching. Just wanted to check to see if anyone had the filter from their old K&N kit that everyone despises on this forum[8D]
Is that filter actually bad? I mean you should be able to just clean it and keep on using it. Post some pics up of whats wrong with it? No need to replace it if you can just clean it.
Nope never heard of VIP. I don't know if it's something thats only around there or if we just don't have them around here.
BTW did you get your rear end parts? Were they coming today or tomorrow?

Yeah, you are probably right. I know they make those recharger kits, so maybe I'll just drop the dreaded dough on the kit and spend an hour making it new. But the parts should be here tomorrow including the open carrier with spider gears, and the bearings and seal kit from randy's ring and pinion. If they get here tomorrow, the job can start tomorrow. I actually have good news though. I wanted to make sure the job was done right, and done quick. I really need my truck back, I have been out a vehicle for two weeks. So I don't know if you guys remember when I told you about the mechanic at the shop who took me aside and bashed his manager and the shop, and offered to take my truck to his shop? Well, I called him last week. I asked him if he'd be willing to come to my house and help me out with it. I really just can't afford to screw my rear end up, it's all I have left. So he said he will help me out. I'm thinking of paying him about $100-$150. What he is doing is a huge help for me, and I am going to learn a lot. While the truck has been in my garage I've changed all the oils with synthetic fluids (front differential, transfer case, and engine). And I have Mobil 1 synethetic gear oil for the rear differential as well. Just very excited to get this beast back on the road.
