Mobil 1 gear oil for manual trans?
Most of you have AT's, so that's what ends up coming up in searches like crazy. From the few posts I have found, people have suggested just using the Mopar Manual Transmission Fluid at the $15 a quart. I'm wanting to change mine out, but I don't have dealers close to me (closest one is about 85 miles away).
Checking around, it looks like the Mobil 1 gear oil (75w-90) meets the same specs, but no one seems to be able to verify why Dodge says "Mopar Fluid ONLY." The Chev's with the same NV3500 have the Mobil 1 stuff listed as a suitable replacement, so what is different about the Dodge? Is it just a gimmick, or should I spend all the money to travel 170 miles round trip and then spend $15 a quart to get this stuff?

I'd say go for it. It meets the requirements so just do it.

check your state laws; you may find that Dodge must provide the fluid for free since it is labeled "Mopar Fluid Only". If this is the case, have them mail it to you and then DYI. Good luck.
