Borla or other than flowmaster?
Anybody running a borla exhaust on thier truck? or anything other than flowmasters? went riding in my buddies 98 the other day and the 44 kit is just too loud. need something that's going to sound right yet not overpower my stereo
I'm probably the guy running one on the site but I'm running a Vortex by Maremont. Very mellow and plenty of power. I've had it over 4 years now and it's probably a bit louder than when new.
If I ever wanted to downgrade in decibal volume, I would buy the Gibson Supertruck exhaust system. Looks cool, and isn't supposed to be obnoxiously loud like the flowmaster. They basically told me it's the middle aged man's exhaust where the family can still ride in the truck, and won't wake the neighbors up. So something to consider. Edelbrock is another option I looked at once too.
I don't know what Flowmaster I had before but the shop thought it was a 40 series and so did I as it was about the same size but I loved it. I like my 40 series I had put on now but sometimes it's a little too loud other times it's fine. What I had before wasn't loud inside the truck at all. Infact didn't sound a ton louder than stock. With the windows up you could hear it but kind of had to listen for it. Outside it was pretty darn loud and just sounded super mean. Others were amazed when they got in how quiet it was compared to the outside too. This new 40 is maybe a little louder outside not a ton but maybe somewhat but seems a lot louder inside. I like how it sounds and a lot of times I like it being loud like it is but there are others I wish it was like it was before. I'd say the old setup was perfect I just wish I knew which Flowmaster it was. I still have it but it's not on anything and all they say is Flowmaster on the mufflers they don't tell you which series on the muffler. Maybe it was how mine was setup or something I don't know but I loved how it was inside and out before.
I'd say maybe try a 50 series? Mine now you can hear it over the radio if it's at low volumes. You can turn the radio on up and it will mostly drown it out. If not turned way up you can hear the exhaust at times and sometimes it overpowers the radio if the radio is low. Before if you had the radio on you could barely hear the exhaust if you could hear it. It was pretty quiet inside before with the windows up and with them down it wasn't loud but you could hear it rumble some. Not like now it's quite a bit louder inside. I thought the 50 series was either bigger or smaller or something I forgot which. I got the dimensions from Summit and measured my old one and it measured out to the same size as my 40 series or according to the dimensions from summit. I haven't measured my new one so I don't know if it was how the exhaust was setup or a differen't 40 series or what. I loved it though. Not that I don't like mine now.

trust me the gibson supertruck is loud... too loud for what I can get away with. same with the 40's
I have to ocasionaly drive through peoples property in the middle of the night... having loud exhaust isn't a good thing. that and HOA has some strict rules around here, and I have to pass the biggest tattle tale on the face of the earth to get in and out of my house... he complains if i start mowing my yard with my electric mower at 8:59am (rules state no yard work before 9:00am) and he's almost a block from my house [:@].... so yeah loud really wont work.
dsrt, how loud is your truck on the outside.

I say through a 50 series on there. Whatever I had before though if it was a 50 series was pretty loud still on the outside just no inside. I was thinking it wasn't a 50 though but maybe as a buddy has one on his truck thats a Flowmaster. Has the awesome Flowmaster tone to it but wasn't loud at all. I mean probably a little louder than stock but no where near as loud as mine even with the old exhaust. Maybe check into something like that. IMO Flowmasters seem to be the best sounding. I'm just not sure they are the best built or as far as flow is concerned.
I have a Magna Flow stainless steel muffler. It is great because it has a nice low rubble (doesn't sound like the generic Flowmaster) when at idle and through the gears, but at highway speeds it is barely noticeable. Well worth the money. Best part is it is stainless steel and cheaper than flowmaster, gibson and borla. Check it out.
