Default belt tensioner squeal

i`ve got a high pitch squeal coming from the front of motor,i`m pretty sure its in the tensioner area,my question ,would it be the pulley or the tensioner itself?

if its the tensioner, then i'd say its the pulley/bearings on the tensioner, as opposed to the tensioner spring.

but, it could also be the idler pulley, the alternator, waterpump, or the belt itself.

i'd give each one a generous squirt of wd-40, one at a time. if it reduces/eliminates the noise, that tells you which one it is. if the wd-40 quietens it down, its probably only temporary, and you likely need to change that piece. as far as i know, none of those bearings are made to be greasable.

also, with the belt off, you should be able to rotate/wiggle each one by hand. it should feel smooth and quiet and tight. if not, thats it.

It would be the bearing in the pulley! You can spray some Cyclo or PB on the tensioner spring and make sure it's free'd up, But you should take off the belt and check all the other pulley's as well.

its just your belt.. go to autozone and ask for the stuff that you can spray on your belt to stop it from whinning like a big baby... got some just this past weekend.. seems to work... make sure your belt is still in good shape.. might need a new one.

I have the same problem, but once the engine gets up to running temp the squeal disappears. I was gussing the idler pulley, but i'll try spraying them.

Belt dressing is a temporary solution.. If its making noise abnormaly its prolly broke.. Check an replace belt or pulley... Might be a simple spray fix but when it completely fails or breaks off completely things get much more expenisive..

My 98 did this also and all I had to do was put a wrench on the front of the pulley and move it back and forth a few times. My guess is that it was stuck in one position for so long that it just froze up a little.

i went through numerous belts with constant noise and belt-throwing...we took it to a dealership, and they said that there was nothing wrong with it that they could see. i bought a set of march underdrive pullies and replaced the tensioner...the only thing that i didnt replace was the power steering pulley. turns out, the pressed-on pulley had "walked" out about 2mm, just enough to ease the belt over the front edge of the crank pulley and off...
