Default Pully Tensioner/Idler Pulley

Would an idler pulley make a weird noise inside the cab if it was bad? There has always been this annoying grasshopper sound that comes in through my cab when the engine runs, could this be causing that noise?

Don't bad pulleys usually make a squeeling type noise? Is that what your trucks is doing? Most time I've heard of them being bad it's been a squeeling type noise.

Mine chirped like a cricket at regular intervals.

Yes, just replaced my tensioner, and the sound started as chirping and quickly went to squealing. It's easy to check though, take the tension off and feel for any play. My bearing was so bad I can't believe it stayed on...

Neon,

You do know that the idler pulley and the belt tensioner are 2 different pulleys, right? Not meaning to be demeaning.

my squealing had to do with the wrong belt. I had a 6 rib on instead of the required 7 rib. mine is a 5.9L so i assume your's would be the same.
