Default What can I do to make my truck faster?

I have most of the basic bolt ons. I took my truck to the track tonight and was really dissapointed with it. The track is a 1/8th of a mile. I finally got my time down to a 11.48. This to me is horrible as I ran a 11.2something a couple of years ago with the same tires, different exhaust, without the programmer, without the APS transmission and just stuff like that.

Now half of the problem I think is I could not get the truck to hook at all. I don't remember it spinning at all when I went a few years ago. I'm thinking maybe it has more power now but is slower because it wont hook. I'm not sure. I ran several times at 11.80 and several at 11.60 and then got that one down to 11.48. I had some in the 11.50's too. The times were all over the place. I could just feel the truck spin when I left. I thought it was just spinning for a second or two but the person with me told me it looked like I was spinning to the light pole which he pointed to was about half track. The time I got the 11.48 it hooked fairly well. IMO my truck shouldn't be spinning on the track I'm not exactly sure why it wont hook. What can I do to get this thing faster? Should I work on getting traction or should I work on adding more power? Other cars and trucks were spinning too and still running a ton faster. Granted most trucks were diesels. I would like to add more power but don't want to spend a ton and think I have most bolt ons. Here is basically a list of my mods. I'd really like to hit mid 10's in the 8th of a mile. Especially since I was at 11.2's before.
Now things I have added that weigh more are a sub box that is a lot bigger and holds 2 12"s. I had a single sub box that was a lot smaller holding 1 10" sub before, I also replaced the stock sized spare tire with a 33" BFG MT mounted on that wheel.

The truck is a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd Offroad Package with a 360 engine.

I have a
3" Skyjacker lift
33" BFG MT's
4.10 Gears that came with the offroad package.
Auburn limited slip
APS performance tranmission with shift kit and other goodies
B&M transmission cooler
Edelbrock Air Hat assembly
Magnaflow 3" in and out Cat
Flowmaster 40 series single 2.5" in dual 2.25" out with pipes
Hypertech PP3 programmer
MSD Plug wires
Champion Platinum plugs
APS Pleneum kit

Thats basically all I can think of that I have right now. I do not want headers as I just hear of too many problems with them and doesn't seem like they make a big difference either. I have really thought about a Fastman 52mm TB but hear some say it helped and some say it didn't make a difference. I'm thinking this isn't going to get me to mid 10's. They seemed pretty impressed for what my truck was doing but I was a little unhappy. I was about a second behind a F-250 diesel I raced. He redlighted and got a nice head start on my and I wasn't too far behind but I still would like to be able to keep up with him. He did have stock tires though.

Any other things you guys would recommend?

Royal Purple in the engine and front diff. Mopar ATF +4 in the transmission and transfer case. Last but not least Lucas non synthetic with Ford LSD additive. The reason for no RP in the rear end is the Auburn calls for a non synthetic fluid and recommends the Ford LSD additive. I used to run RP in the rear diff too back when it was stock.

Auburn HP lsd cost me .15 seconds on my avg 1/4m times. Slowed down cause I wasnt running synth (was prior) and the carrier is a fair bit beefier than the stock factory lsd.
My first upgraded trans added .20 to my avg 1/4m times,unfortunatelydiff/trans upgradesare neccessary to handle higher power levels.
Swapping the spare for a 33 and the much bigger sub box probably added at least 100lb. Wt kills ets
If you are spinningoff the linethen tires or launch needs to be changed. Either find something stickier fortrack use orlaunch it in 4wheel. Lot ofmodded ctd's have to use 4wheel on the track cause of traction. Big heavy trucks tend to sit there and spin especially with more aggressive offroad tires.
What was your 60' time?

As far as things to make you faster, pulleys (affects charging) efans, headers, fastman 52 and empty the truck of the excess weight your carrying.Without addressing traction none of the above will help your ets, just make them more erratic.

Put some Harland Sharp 1.7 Roller Rockers on it or a mild cam $300-400. Nice boost IMO
Get the Fastman, just get it. It works
Sell the Hypetech on ebay or here and invest in an SCT tuner. believe me, it blows the doors off the Superchips I had.
Grind the runners down in your intake about an inch and a half. It was worth it to me for how much smoother the truck pulled up to the high RPMs at WOT.

Lose the spare at the track

Why doesn't you muffler inlet size match your cat outlet? There's a restriction there. You'll notice it if you open up the runners and go with a fastman.

If everybody slips at the track, blame the track. Too much garbage on the track like stones and fluids cause those problems.

Thanks guys for the options. I really have some stuff to think about now. If I launch in 4wd I would think it would keep me from spinning but would it take more power from having to turn the front end parts resulting in a slower time? I'm going to have to go look at my time slips and get you guys the 60 foot times and everything.

Are there any downsides to underdrive pulleys? I see you said affects charging. Does it affect it in a bad way? This is another something I've thought a little about but haven't done enough research yet.

Thanks for the help guys.

BTW the muffler inlet doesn't match the cat because I had the muffler put on not quite a year ago and just had the cat put on. I needed a 3" in cat so got the 3" in and 3" out and had them put a reducer on it. I was told that I wouldn't be able to really tell a difference that the reducer would make it would be soo small.

Ok I got my time slip to look at.

My Reaction time was a +.2765
My 60 Foot Time was 2.5409
My Elapsed Time was 11.4809
My Speed was 61.755

That was my best one.

I am not exactly sure where the old time slip from a couple years ago is. I know I have it but not sure where so I can't post it right now.

It's hard to believe you'd have trouble hooking up with a properly working Auburn in there. Like said, if everyone else was spinning too, it probably was the track surface.
But you are gonna have to come up with a combo that won't spin nearly that far down the track or all the added HP won't do a thing for you.
Once that is addressed, an e-fan does a lot more than you'd think off the line. I don't go to the track, but after I installed mine, I could feel a big difference in acceleration from a dead stop.
The SCT and a custom tune should really shave some time for you as well.
But if you REALLY want to see some awsome track times and money is notan issue, can you say: STROKER KIT? Some really good ones out there for the venerable old 360 block...

Well, I have the same truck as you. Honestly, I would want to say it's the tires and your wheels, but I can't because even when I had 35" tires, my truck was still remarkably powerful and getting 9 seconds 0-60. In regards to the headers, they won't give you a problem if you do them yourself. I learned the hard way and had someone do the job who wasn't very familiar with it. I got stuck replacing o2 sensors and fixing unwanted gasket leaks etc. The headers gave me a very noticable gain, they open the truck right up. When I punch this truck it just opens right up, it sounds like a cammed mustang. If you really want it to go fast, you have me as a demonstration of 285 tires with the offroad edition wheels. I run a K&N FIPK II kit, pacesetter longtube headers with the offroad y-pipe, a 3" in/2.5" dual out super 44 muffler with a gutted cat, and THATS it, and she is getting 7.5 seconds 0-60. When I can get around to the fastman tb and SC tuner, I can only imagine it getting in the 6s. My truck is not a "race truck", nor do I use it for racing, I use it for work, but it rolls with any truck these days...titans, gmcs, silverados. I can't see those big wheels and tires making that truck fast. It looks great, but I think you have to choose what you want. A stout looking truck that looks beefy, but not so much fast...or do what I did, and make it look more sporty and athletic with the giant 360 roaring the truck. It's a beautiful truck you have, but I think you have to choose what you want....Big looking truck with poor gas and speed, or less aggressive looking truck but with a very sporty truck that can haul *** and pick up 2-3 mpgs.

Heh, yeah that'll do it too, I was kinda wondering what budget he's on. You could do a stoker and ported heads and that'd put a smile on the old face. Here's some heads that were talked about a few months ago:
