Hey, Just a note about the moonroof. I own a 1999 Ram with a moonroof and it was an aftermarket one. I bought the truck with it installed already. Works great and love it, but after about 5 years it has started to leak. Just something to keep in mind!!!!

Had that warning from others. Plan on having it installed by the place around here that does all the work for the dealerships. Thinking if I have issues down the line they can do some work to it.

yeah moonroofs do require a lil more maintenance than a vehicle without one. even as a factory option the weatherstripping needs to be replaced every couple years. but still requires less maintenance and provides more security than a convertible top

i was plundering online this morning and ran across these pics of a 4door titan with an aftermarket Webasto moonroof kit installed. thought you might be interested in seeing them. this is exactly what i want, just wish it was a little wider for a larger opening, bust still looks great.

in case you were wondering, this is the "Webasto Hollandia 500" panoramic sunroof, supposedly the largest available. the photo above doesnt show it, but the rear section of the sunroof opens as well. it's essentially two sunroofs together with a bridge between that can be operated as one, or operated individually depending on how much air and light you want at the time. here's a pic of both panels open together:

Way cool. Haven't seen those before, but with my smaller quad cab, just cared about something over my head. Curious what you find out that would cost in your truck.

havent gotten far enough yet to learn about pricing. the webasto products arent sold to the public, only through dealers. so i plan to make a few phone calls tomorrow when places are open to find a good estimate. i'd expect the labor to be the same (i would think cutting the roof should be the same no matter the size or sunroof style they put it) but i have no idea yet as to the pricing of the webasto kit itself. the guy on the titan forums that had this installed was quoted $1400 but said he negotiated it to be a bit lower (this was in 2006). i'll find out something tomorrow and update this thread with what i find

Sounds good. Not a bad price at all.

I hate to go against you but we have a 96 Accord we bought new back in 96 with a factory sun roof. We still have it and have never had to replace the weatherstripping around the sunroof. It doesn't leak or have any other problems. We also have a 06 Accord with a factory sun roof we have had not quite 3 years. We bought it new in the summer of 06. It's not had any issues either although it's not that old.

I've had a lot of people tell me that after markets are a lot more likely to leak, but I believe if you have a decent person to install a quality unit, it should last as long as a factory installed item. I had a 9 year old Jetta with a moonroof and it never leaked.

well thats good news! i think the worse-case scenario of having an aftermarket sunroof would be fixing leaks or having to replace the motor after a few years, but if it doesnt leak at all and works great for many years then all the better if it does require maintenance then in my eyes its still well worth the enjoyment it would bring
