Default Air Bag Question

My Air Bag light consistently stays on, and all Haynes says is to take it to a dealer. Never thought about posting it till now. My friend from UTI says it could be a really bad thing, that my air bag could deploy going down the road past 60 mph, but i didn't really buy into it.

Any idea how to get it off without removing the light bulb? I'm assuming my truck was hit in the front prior to me getting it, as there were missing trim pieces of the bumper. Nothing major though.

Maybe your airbag is shut off? Have you tried putting you key in the airback lock and see if it goes off?. (the light)

Take it and have it scanned. It would be worse if you got in a wreck and it DIDN't go off.

scanned with a generic reader or one of the fancy do dad's at a shop?

A buddy of mine ran through mine with his diagnostic machine, reset some settings and all, and found the o2 sensor was the culprit for my ****astic driving a few months back, but he didnt find anything with the air bag. I'm sure that's something that would come up?

It needs to be a scanner capable of reading ABS codes not just engine codes.

Assuming, that's a fancy do-dad lol.

What's ABS stand for in terms of codes? Still Anti-lock Braking System; lol?

Sorry I did not mean to say ABS just AB. However most capable scanners put them both in the same catagory/section when testing. I know it sucks but your best bet is the dealer.

You know , since you say it might have been hit in the front you should check the sensor(s). You'll see a harness with a plug going into what looks like a flat plastic thing mounted to a metal brace underneath the front of the truck on the driver side by the radiator and or the pass. side . I think diesels have 2 and gas has one but I could be wrong about that. And it could be the clockspring too. They may have only replaced the air bag and not the clock spring. But this is why you need to get it scanned.

Hey! I do remember seeing something with a spring in it, and it was totally broken so I just removed it. It was up near the radiator IIRC. Or at least some of it was. And my Cruise Servo is totally gone, never knew I was suppose to have one till I saw the haynes diagram.

That's gotta be it, but I guess I am screwed cause everything I've read says to check it out at a dealer because of the particulars

Is the air bag lite thats on for the passager side or on the dash? If the lite on the dash is on,then you may have have an open driver squib curcuit. ( clockspring ) or a blowen fuse.
