Default Rolling Money Pit Strikes Again !!!

I had the truck in a 3rd time to have the AC fixed. Kept losing the refrigerant..
finally they were able to track it down to the evaporator core.
so, they have to pull the dash out to get to it...
roughly 6 shop hrs...
roughly $170 for the core
ballpark $600-700 for the total job.

Wife is pissed, and so am I, haven't had the truck for a year yet and already put almost $6000 in to it.
The front axle seal is leaking also.. wtf is next? (don't answer).

once wife is off maternity leave, I am getting something else. YES I know ANY make has issues, but with this truck its just one thing after another. think the guys on the assembly line were disgruntal.

I am sure in time, we will just decide to suck it up and keep this rolling money pit.

if you still havent let the guys fix the problem for the a/c, there is this little bottle in autozone that they sell for about 20 bucks (it sells everything the is metal and rubber etc) I have used it 2 times with great success, it comes with its own hose. If you still havent tooken it i would recomend using this product first (its worth a try, better to spend 20 bucks then 800) contact me if you want more info

you're right. there are several repairs that these trucks tend to need that can run into major major dollars when you have to pay someone else to do it, including heater core, ac evap, heads, even the water pump, transmission, front end bearings, seals, ball joints, etc. 2 or 3 of these can cost more than the $#$# truck is worth.

the truck has put in more than its fair share of time in a garage.
some work i guess i could have done myself, but I don't have the time or the tools.
paid $6200 for it, put in roughly $6000 in repairs, had it less than a year.
still needs $500-700 more after this AC fix.

it can happen to any truck/car from any maker. I mean, look at the 95-00 tacomas, they have a serious frame recall. some trucks are bought back to keep them off the road by toyota. A friend of ours just had his truck recalled for the frame rust recall and Toyota paided them 150% of the KBB. He was happy since it was a POS. It would be nice if Dodge would do that with thier POS Tranny's.

but I shouldn't have bought privately, my wife thought I would save more on the sale of my car. I like to pay a little more at a Stealer**** and get the extended warranty... I have had great luck buying like that. So, in my case all the work I put in to my truck would have been covered.

Oh well... I am looking in to getting a Dakota or a Sport Trac. The downside to the Sport Trac is they are underpowered. But I have noticed the full sized market has tanked. I am finding all kinds of deals, but that would only mean I get squat for my trade... putting me back to the almighty question... it might be cheaper to keep her.

6200 + 6000 + 700 = 12,900 in a truck that KBB optimistically says is worth about $5000-6000, but in reality you might not get anywhere near that given the price of gas. and not trying to be a butt, you might get even less than squat on a trade in. damn that just sucks. i'd think long and hard before i sunk any more money into it.

yeah, no shat.

I have already been looking at what is out there and from the really low prices of trucks, I know I will not get more than $4000 if I traded it in. IF that.
Private might be a little more, because the transmission still has a warranty. but it looks like this Dodge was the worst purchase for me.

but hey... it does run great... (the motor)... so if it can stay together for another year i will just get a car and keep this as a 3rd car (home depot/snow driving).

LOL
tire = fix.
transmission ? hmmm
lift, gears, paint, etc. hmmm. no offense intended, but i just hate to see people get in a position where something changes in their life (baby, wife, moving, etc) and they need money, and i see sale ads like... truck for sale, over $15k invested, sacrifice for $6k... or worse, the truck gets in a wreck, gets totaled out, and insurance only pays $3-4k.
