Default Need more power

well i went to the races tonight, did horrible. i beat a 5.9 1/2ton ram by a bumper, otherwise lost to everything else. anyways, i prestage around 2.000rpm, launch and break traction so bad i spun half way down the track. i need some pointers on how to get more hp but not to serious, just enough to makem think WTF?! andi still want to keep it as a daily driver but not get like 5mpg all the time. so far i have the 14x3 air cleaner and a dynomax superturbo muffler.and what do i do about this stupid open diff? i was thinking true trac locker but i'm not sure if it would be harder on the rear end or not. please help, thanks. P.S sorry if it seems like alot of whimpering im just dissapointed after tonight.

The Detroit Tru Trac and Auburn are LSDs that would be good for a daily driver and give you good traction in the rear when you need it.

Definitely look at replacing your plugs (do a forum search for best ones), wires (go with 8+mm if you can), and distributor cap (probably a brass unit) to make sure you have plenty of juice flowing to where it needs to go. This is a good tune-up method to get better MPGs as well.

Look at the Fastman throttle bodies. http://www.thefastman.com/Throttlebodies5x.asp Great upgrade for a lot less than the other TBs, and gets as good, if not better, results. Very easy install as well.

What size exhaust pipe do you have? Stock?

well so far i have the champion copper plugs, still stock wires and cap and rotor. my exhaust is 2.5. i was looking at an lsd. i went on summit and so far i have on my "future order" summit truck shorty headers. flowmaster thunderseries cat back exhaust. summit brass cap & rotor. summit 8mm wires. detroit true track locker. and a stage 2 jet chip. all this is about 1500 or so. Tax season project i also want to have the motor rebuilt, has 160k now. but when i have it rebuilt i want to put a mild cam in it. any ideas? edit: forgot about the FM52mmTB thanks.!

Don't do the JET chip. They don't work very well in our trucks, and can even jar loose, killing the engine.

If you want to mess with the computer, do it right and get a SCT tuner. Yep, expensive, but they are the best. You also have less expensive, but not as good, alternatives such as Hypertech and Superchips. They, however, would still be better than the JET chip.

Unless you plan on throwing on a supercharger, or some other extensive modifications, I wouldn't get a 52mm for a 5.2L. I'd get the 50mm, its what the Fastman (Dan) recommends for them.

What times did you run? Was it a quarter mile or 8th mile track? If 1/4th mile what did the time slip say for both the quarter and 8th?
