Default Front Axle Breather?

Anyone know where it is?
I heard that axle leaks can be atributed to a clogged breather.

Mine comes up from the axle, and is clipped to the inside of the passenger side fender.

And there is a check valve on the end of it.

the check valve on the end seems like something is missing.
the cap is loose and wiggles/wobbles. thought they were spring loaded?

I think that's how it is supposed to be. I recall that sounds like what mine is like.

What S_D said. Thats normal, if you really want to make sure the hose and/or the valve is working. Disconnect the hose from the CAD and blow through it.

If the breather was plugged up, it would definitely cause the excess pressure in the axle housing to come out of the seals, I have seen a diesel engine that the breather tube was plugged and it would not run, we figured that out after a complete engine overhaul and the damn thing still wouldnt run

I had to commute 75 miles today for citrix training, and during lunch break I moved my truck out of the direct sun to a shady spot. When i was walking back to the class i saw a tire print of oil. Of course it came from my truck, the front driverside axle seal. this was the most oil I have ever seen it leak. I'd say almost an ounce. most times it just leaves small drops of oil, this time a mini puddle.
I guess its time for me to attemp replacing it.
I will search this forum and others for a parts/tool list and torque specs for all the bolts I will have to remove, as well as a good oil to fill the pumpkin.
ugh.
