I need a track bar / has my truck been lifted?
Hi, I'm David and this is my first post here. Thanks to this awesome web site, the cool people in it, and the search function, I now know I need a tracking bar. Sweet Jesus do I need a tracking bar.
What I don't know is if the truck I recently bought has been lifted, if so how much? Did someone lift it and keep the stock track bar? I'm trying to determine if I can get a stock one, or do I need one of the extended ones. I think a "Thuren" would be a waste of money in my case because I do very little off-roading. However, it's the only adjustable one I've seen mentioned (If I even need a longer one).
If it means anything, the steering wheel is slightly to the left when driving straight. About 10 or 11 o'clock. Could mean nothing, it's a used truck that's been through God knows what.
Here are some details/measurements (I don't know which of this is relevant):
98 Ram 2500 4WD, 140,000 miles.
* There is a block under the leaf springs that I measure around 4.75" high.
* The coil springs are about 13.5" high, not including the inch or so for the brackets.
* It's the 8800lb gross weight version, not the 6600lb one (the auto parts guy wanted to know that when I did the brakes)
* Tires are LT265, that I measure arounf 31" high, rear bumper starts at around 25" high, and the front starts at around 22" high.
So, on to the pictures I guess:
The unit in question:
Lifted? Alot? A little?
Yikes.
Thanks for reading all this, and for this forum.

I'd go with the Thuren even if you don't offroad. That way you know you have a quality track bar not the stock one that seems to go on lots of guys. Anyway that looks stock to me from the pictures. Can't be 100% sure but it really looks stock to me.

I just got my 98 and thought the same thing (actually made a similar post.) I was surprised to see a stock truck with blocks.
Just curious, how much did you pay for yours?

I paid 4800, which is $400 over what Kelly Blue Book says it's worth in "fair" condition (needing work).
It was up for 5700, but needed some work. I already have another 1200 into it with a little ways more to go, but I'm not complaining. I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting into.

I just got new wheels and tires for mine. I found a good deal from someone that had taken them off a truck they were trading in. The tires were brand new 33" bfg M/Ts mounted on American Racing wheels. I got all 4 for $700. Here is how it looks now.
