Default biggest tire to fit stock area

what is the biggest tire i can fit in a stock wheel housing? i have285/75/r16 right now, but i would like to see of 33" tires would fit or if i have to stay down towards a 31". I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500HD with the plow package/towing package. anybody have any clue as to what size and what tire tread pattern i should use? its a daily driver in a heavy snow area in michigan's upper penninsula. let me know if you have any ideas.

I had 315/75 16s on my 98 2500 4x4 when I got it. I have since switched to 33 12.50 16.5s with after market wheels. They rub a little on the plastic when turned all the way and I hit a bump. If I had the stock wheels wil more backspacing it wouldn't rub at all. Your 285s are almost 33s.

A 285 is technically a 33 inch tire. You might be able to get a "small" 315 in there, and for sure with a 2 inch spacer.

33's, but like said, I would get a little spacer, to just help it. Can't beat it for less then 100 bucks

33s fit stock on a 1500. A 2500 sits about 2 inches higher than a 1500. So 33x12.5s will fit just fine.

And that is maxing out the gear, assuming your truck has 3.55.
