Are you on top dead center compression stroke ? that is the only way for top dead center.


the best way to get oil drive lined up is use a large screw driver and turn drive shaft, Or you can remove the pan and oil pump then install distributer pointing to #1 on the cap then install oil pump and pan. There is a bright side to removing oil pan you can clean all the sludge out it clean it up and paint it plus do a oil change.
