I know my 98 isn't much of a drag truck.

Best proof is to go to youtube and watch the 0-60 video clips. There are tons of them.

Hmm, I had an 87 S-10 with the 2.8L and some mods and I was a second and a half slower and the same speed. But I don't know that a stock 5.9L would 'smoke' a newer hemi. It might beat it but not blow it away.

well all in all i was just superised. im sure if we had a 1/4 it would have been close but in the mean time for being a hemi/GM350 its not all that bad as they think. i just dont get why they put a wing on a truck.[:'(]

 

Please don't get me started on the wing thing. And all the plastic garbage stuck on it. And the stickers from other makes (not just model). And the tires a foot tall and a foot wide and sticking 6 inches out of the fender.

 

my dad has a basic 2005 1500 4x4 5.7 hemi. smokes any gas powered truck i have ever seen. 6.0 chevys are slow compared to it. smokes the tires from a dead standstill or rolling at 40 mph. i didnt expect much from it when i first drove it, cuz of all the things i heard of it not living up to its name. After the first drive, i was convinced. It has plenty of power and would smoke a 5.2 easy and even a modded 5.9. Keep in mind this truck was bone stock too. I am a firm believer in the hemi engine. havent towed with it, but for racing it will smoke almost any other. Dont just watch others, or trust how hard they are pushing it when racing, drive one sometime andyou will see.

Are you sure he was racing you?I have owned both trucks, an 04' QC 4x4 hemi (current) andan 98' 5.9 ram, there is NO way that my 5.9 could outrun my 5.7.....hell my 98' dakota witha 318 wouldhave showedmy 5.9 ram the tailgate....don't get me wrong the 5.9 is a helluva motor, it could/would probably pull just as well as the 5.7, but the hemi moves these trucks with much more authority than any stock/mildly modded 5.9 ive been in....but who races 4x4 trucks anyways? Congrats on winning the race i guess....

i cant get the video to work, but yea that counts for a lot. way to support our 318's. with work they are a helluva motor. and they last as long as diesels when cared for

 

The distance you raced, the final gearing your truck has (right down to the tires), dead weight, the driver, etc., all play a pretty big role in who wins a race. The 318 is a pretty damn quick revving engine. It ain't a stump puller, but it'll get up and move.
