difference from 96 and 97
is there any difference from these two Rams in the electrical side of things. mainly the engine harness, PCM, and gauges. i need to swap in a 96 PCM and harness into a 97 but was told from somewhere that the 96 gauges are not a 2 wire CCD bus like the 97 is?? since dodge went to OBDII in 96, i think, why would they change anything one more year later??
ccd= Chrysler Collision Detection module. two wires control the gauges from what i understand. the gauges are a Electro Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) style. but i need to know if the 96 is the same. i have the listed manual for the 2001 ram that is listed in the sticky on this forum. but is it the same setup in 2001 as in 97 and 96??
ok, there is a difference in PCM between them years i think. auto zone part numbers are different. so you were right on that charlie. but the haynes manuals at the store are so broad, i couldnt tell about the gauges being controlled the same way or not

97 was an odd ball year for the pcm.
96 to 00 generally had an MP PCM(perf comp)available from Mopar Performance within a year after release. The only exception was the 97 model year. It didnt get an MP PCM available for it till 01 at the same time as the 00 model year. Not sure what the differences were, but it seems the 97 pcm was theblack sheep of the obdIIs
