Tranny won't go into park
Hello everyone,
I have a 2000 2500 w/cummins and it has over 200k on it. Great Truck, a few minor problems in the past but nothing major. The other day I put in park went inside, came out a few hours later and it wouldn't start. I checked all of the fuses (power locks and seat, radio don't work) and they are ok, put it in nuetral and it started. Tried to put it in park again but it would go. All of the linkage is fine. I have never changed the fluid or filter, I don't tow anything now but had a small 25' fifth wheel. Other than the obvious need for the filter and fluid change, what could be causing this issue?

Does the truck roll when you put the lever in park? With the brake on. If it does, then I would the trans box and make sure its not in nuetral. Or the safety nuetral switch is bad.
The truck will roll if I take my foot off of the brake, as if it is nuetral. When the truck is off I have to keep the emergency brake on to keep it from rolling. It seems as if the the shift linkage or something in the column is off. If I pull on the shift lever toward park I can get the key out but it still won't go into park. I can only start it when in nuetral, once started, it will run and shift normally. I am lost when it comes to transmissions. Do you have a how-to site for me to check the trans box?
