How can I improve gas mileage?

RE: How can I improve gas mileage?
I've got a 5.9, 96 1500 with only 16000 miles. I usually average 20-17 MPG during the fall/summer/spring season but mileage goes in the tank over winter, down to 14-15 MPG. More sitting, less driving. I also spend a lot more time stomping on it to get the heck out of the intersections (no traction) in the winter though. So my answer, ease up on the foot!

no od = less pedal to accelerate, but means motor runs at a higher rpm. less pedal to reach desired speed, less pedal =less gas=bettermpg(unless its all in my silly little mind. .....and it just might be.. but i only do thid while in town, which doesnt need od anyway. highway ofcourse use it unless towing

Aftermaket air filter, synthetic oil and regular maint. When I bought my truck new in 1999 and It was a couple of weeks before the gas prices went through the roof. So I really needed better fuel mileage. I installed an amsoil air filter, amsoil fluids through out and I went from 11MPG to 13MPG. I also praticed with an egg on the gas pedal, after a few weeks and a couple dozen eggs I now get 14MPG.

RE: How can I improve gas mileage?
I drive a 98 Sport, therefore I am well aware that the Sport doesn't have chrome. My question is in response to the comment that "he may be driving a Sport," which implies that therein may be the reason he doesn't get good mileage! Sooooo..........what difference does it make if it is a Sport or one of "Chrome Grilled" type gas guzzlers?
