Default 99 ram dies while going down the road

i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport. it will run fine but at any time goin down the road it will just shut off and i have to coast to the side of the road and i lose power steering and once it dies it will take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes before it will start back up again. i thought it was the coil pack so i replaced it but that wasnt the problem cuz its still doin it. any ideas or suggestions. i installed a aem brute force air intake a month ago could that make it do that if it wasnt on right? but i think it may be a fuel pump issue or somethin. help would be greatly appreciated thanks

yeah I had that problem too. I would just be driving and all the sudden the engine cuts off and the steering wheel locks. I almost had a crash cuz the brakes werent working either. I found out that when it does it throw it in neutral start the truck back up and put it in drive and the truck would go back to normal... I know a few people with chevy trucks and its happened to them before too.

It could be a converter problem. You say you have to sit and let it cool off before it will start again,so it could be the cat.Hows the power been lately?

Look into that and if not, then I would look into the fuel system.Cat is the quickest and easiest to check.

if it *is* related to your recent work, then make the assumption not that something has gone bad, but something is loose.

check everything in arms reach of what you worked on. this can be wiring harnesses you may have had to move out of the way, hoses, ground wires, anything. I would make a point of specifically checking the wiring from the crank position sensor (we got 1 or two CKPs?) and check any wires near the exhaust/headers.

the power seems to be just as good as ever but it does seem a bit sluggish for a minute right after it finally starts back up and i have made sure my work i did on my air intake is good and nothing is loose or anything so i dont think its that but i have many people tell me it could be so many things i have had two mechanics look at it and they seem to be just as stumped from what i can tell

I'm not sure, it does seem like that might be the problem.
Are there any codes?
