TD thanks for the pics. If I need any help I'll be sure to ask you lol. Yesterday I got the alt, A/c compressor, assocory bracket, and intake off. Wasn't too bad in there but there was some oil. I also noticed some of the intake bolts wern't real tight. Today I'll probably yank the heads. There is junk in the runners of the heads that has me concerned.

Pics!

Not a problemo BB2. You may be aware of all this, but I'll say it anyway : Before pulling the heads, make sure your rockers and pushrods stay in order so you can match them back up later. Also, be very carefull with the lifter bores and do not mix up the lifters and yokes from their corresponding bores.

Take out the block drain plugs to keep coolant from going everywhere when you pull the heads. Right side plug is in front of the motor mount, and the left side plug is behind the starter.

What kind of trash did you find in your head's intake runners? Did your truck ever throw any misfire codes?

I will do that thanks for the heads up. If I change the cam they will all be replaced but I'l do that anyway just in case. The stuff was like pieces of stuff. I like if you see how a mouse starts a nest. Where there is pieces of paper and stuff. It wasn't paper in my heads of course and not a lot of it but enough to see and know it shouldn't be there.

Yes I had an ongoing Cyl 4 misfire. It would come and go which is why I'm doing all this.

Lastrights- I actually changed it Back in June before going on vacation and I was supprised how crappy it looked when I took it off yesterday.

When you pull the right side head off and the #4 chamber looks different from all the rest, check for a tiny crack between the valve seats. It will be hard to see at first so hit it with some penetrant, etc. and you will see it if it's cracked there.

Heres my newest update this is as of Sunday.

Just some pics of the day the one of the pistion are the #4 cylinder you can see the knicks out of it and a piece that i believe is the piece of the spark that broke off that is fused to the top. The one of the head ports is teh #4 as well notice how the one has no carbon build up at all and all the rest did. Also of course I had to get pics of me standing and sitting in the engine bay lol

Wow, that is freaky. I wish I could see your pictures from my work PC. I also had foriegn object damage (FOD) in my bad #8 hole. A small gouge was in the top of my piston with a corresponding gouge in the combustion chamber. Like you are saying, it's like the spark plug electrode broke off and caused the damage. In my case, whatever it was, I'm hoping my old cat caught it because I'm going to cut it open and see if it's in there. I've been wondering if the FOD caused my head crack. Is your #4 cracked?

UPDATE: Heres how I stand as of today

I'm down to needing to remove the timing chain, Dizzy, lifters and cam. I have a bunch of parts on there way as I stated in my parts thread. Still need to order a few things. I still need to finish modding my kegger I kinda put that off. Then I need to get everything cleaned up and painted. I sent a message to the peple selling the heads to find out how I need to go about ordering them. I hope to do that withen the next couple days once I hear back from them.

Heres some pics

This is a movie of the stock timing chain. Should it have that much play?

Fastman 52mm I picked up from pcfixer. It only took me like 5 months to talk him into selling it to me lol
