Just turn and burn until you can afford to get coated ones. I had Blackjack headers 25 years ago on Chevy PU. It was hard enough just keeping header gaskets from leaking. Unless you were really ****, you just let the paint burn off and ignored it. When I finally took them off after several years, I was amazed at the pounds of rust that came pouring out of them when I banged them on the concrete, lol.

I spent 450+ on a set of Hooker headers for my dakota and they did the same thing. After I cut off the flanges and welded on the ones for my W2 heads I sent them out to have them coated. 300 bucks later and they are good to go and look nice to.

Pull them and send them to a coating shop, I bought mine plain stainless and sent them to a local shop, two years old this month, still look like the day I installed them. Check around the local harley shops, they know all the chrome & coating places...

This is the reason why I spent the extra on mine, and I'm very glad I did. I'm very pleased with mine.
