It wont hurt anything but your gas mileage. And yes it will feel like you "lose power" when you go into overdrive, you lose the gearing advantage when O/D kicks in.

Maybe im wrong but wont the tranny fall outta OD when you stomp the gas? so technically you never really lose any power at the pedal.

i turn mine off every time i crank it up, and only turn it on when i get out on a highway going 60 or more. otherwise, it shifts into OD at 40-45 mph and has no power, and constantly shifts in/out of OD.

my truck runs good at 1800-2000 rpm. it can't pull **** in OD at 1000-1200 rpm.

it doesn't hurt it to run with OD off. in fact, its probably better for it, and probably gets better mph at lower speeds.

I also turning my OD off when in town.. under 45mph.. once i get on the freeway.. i let up off the gas and click in the OD then cruise at 60-65mph... I know what you mean when towing and I never tow with OD on... i think it's too hard on the truck.. so face it.. when your towing you're going to get bad mpg so why damage the truck trying to tow with OD on?

i have been running with out overdrive turned off for the past couple weeks to try it out that way. i like it better too.i live in the hills so i was hoping that it would be a little easier on the the trans than shifting all the time. glad to see this post cause i was wondering too.

I turn my OD off on backroads or when I will be going consistantly under 50. I found no difference in my MPG, but I think its easier on the tranny/engine also.

Exactly the same for me, although it didnt seem to do it as bad till after the tranny rebuild, either way i drive around with o/d off unless i hit the highway.
