Same issue on my '96. So, I stripped the hood to the metal. Primered it, and put 6 coats of base and 3 coats of clear.
What do you think? (look under 'hood paint job')

I have noticed that the 98-earlier Rams with Purple, Blue, Black, and green are the Rams with the worst paint fading.
That looks really good. Although my hood is not faded, I would love to do the flat black treatment. I hate the glare that comes off my hood. The whold reason Ma Mopar did this way back when was to cut down sun glare when racing!
Water-based...Thats funny. You go to St. Louis and find a Kindergarten class painting Rams at the factory.

DR07,
Thanks for the comments. I have done a few things to the truck and there is more to come. After 4 years as my 3rd vehicle, the truck is my daily driver again, so it is getting some much deserved attention.
Up next...
1. Repaint bumpers, tailgate
2. Herculine the bed
3. Install new ball joints, 1 1/2" daystar leveling lift, new bilstein shocks and new poly bushings in the front
4. New stereo as some point (as my factory unit has a mind of its own).
I love working on autos anyway...its a cool challenge!
