Default Mundane question about cup holder

Well, I love how the cup holder adjusts to everything from Red Bull cans to Super Mega Monster Soda Kegs from the SA. I came from a VW that had cup holders that barely held pop cans.

Anyway, my gripe is: this damn cup holder creaks constantly, with every bump, and it drives me NUTS! Has anyone else had this problem and cared enough to try to find a fix?

I can't stand creaks, rattles, and squeaks. Fortunately it's pretty good otherwise :P

Yeah... I've got the same creaking sound, and it drives me nuts. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to do it as badly when it has a full beverage in the holder.

Interested in hearing any ideas as well...

I've found that when the cupholder is closed (in my truck) it doesn't make noise and when its open with a beverage in it, it doesn't either. Empty, however, its a noisy bastard. I just close mine when I'm not using it.

Same here. I'm gonna try to lube the pivot points with some PAM or something with low odor?

Try a dry silicon lubricant.

I had the creaking and it was because one of the little rubber stoppers on the driver's side was missing from underneath the "hanging arm". It allowed the "stop plate" to over-flex on bumps and potholes and caused the squeaking, it was worse when there was a cup in the passenger side but not one in the driver's side. Check underneath the stop plate where it connects to the cup holder part to see if one Is gone. It looks exactly the same as the one that is in the back panel near where the cup holder latches when it's closed. I found a new one in the Dorman fasteners section (the HELP! Isle) at the FLAPS. It had a slightly thicker but shorter anchor stem than the stock one, but works just as well.

Dirty bits or spilled sticky liquid in the hinges can also cause the squeaking. Clean it up good and use what Viper suggested and you'll be right as rain.

I'll take a sqeaky cup holder any day at this point. The previous owner broke it off and left the hole behind. But a replacment is on the list. Way down the list.

If you check out eBay, there are usually several cup holders from parted out Rams on there. Thats where I got my replacement, the previous owner of my truck had busted the passenger side clip that adjusts to the size of your cup. Very quick and easy fix once you get the replacement.

I've seen them on there before but they were going for around 60 bucks. Reliability is my big priority right now. Cosmetics sadly take the back seat.
