Thank u so much. I do not know what year the transmission is so I will check and see which pressure sensor it has. I have a 2000 truck.

 

Good info here. I just installed a reman 46RE unit purchased from Powertrain Pros (,,,not) and am experiencing the -40* reading from my Snap On scanner. The tranny doesn't respond to O/D from the push button command at all even after running for over an hour in +90* temps. My old one did in an instant,,,lucky I still have it.

 

If your PCM thinks the trans is -40* then it will not allow OD. Bad/broken wire? Sensor? Did they sell you the one with correct sensors for your year of truck?

 

True, that's what the SM says.

I un-plugged the connector with KO, and the chimes went off with lights "TRANS TEMP" and the O/D lamp. Plugged it back in and all went out. So I'd have to believe wiring etc. are good.

Claimed they sent the right one,,,but I'll have to drop the pan to confirm.

 

Have 1999 ram 2500. Transmission went bad. Put in late 2000 46re. Fit perfectly. Trans over temp light went on, OD would not work.

1999 metal transducer (TFT sensor 3rd design) has 960-1040 ohm resistance at 77 DEG F. (metal body oval connection)
2000 plastic transducer (TFT sensor 4th design) has 1960-2040 ohm resistance at 77 DEG F. (plastic body rectangular connection)

So, hooking up a late 2000 trans to a 1999 Dodge tells the PCM its hot when you plug it in. (See ASTG 46re, 47re, 48re manual page 29)

From what I read the solenoid is fine, it is the governor pressure sensor / transmission fluid temperature sensor that is the swap issue. I belive that I need to put in a 1999 governor pressure sensor / transmission fluid temperature sensor (and change short harness) for it to work properly.

It appears you can drive the vehicle (cause you know the trans is not hot) and it keeps OD off in an effort to cool the trans (which in reality is not hot) (page 28)

If you put a 1999 into a 2000 or later you have a different problem. But they make a converter that may work.

So, this appears to be the "issue" when swapping 99 earlier trans into 2000 or later chassis or vice versa.

Basically the sensor is sending the wrong information for the PCM.

 

Yep, swap the sensor/harness, and you are good to go.
